There is a new show on tv titled, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader. Some words of advice for those of you thinking that you might be good at that game and enter to win the $1,000,000 grande prize -- Don't do it! :floor: Those questions are more difficult than Jeopardy, unless you do your 1st -5th grader's homework.

There seem to be more too many commercials and the show is moving very slowly, but then again, the contestant who is on now, took 20 seconds to multiply 5x2. :idontno: That math problem wasn't the question, but still...? :idontno:

So the questions are really tough? I haven't watched, but have seen the ads for it. I hate to think how really stoopid I'd be trying to answer.......

Sadly, it seems those are the only things I know. My mind is cluttered with random facts/trivia.

It's been forever since I've had a first or fifth grader in my house, so I'm afraid I'd flunk miserably. iwiwt, I do however, know quite a bit of worthless crap.

I think Tyler was in the 5th grade when his math homework became too difficult for me to help him. Thank goodness his dad is good in math, or the poor kid would never have made it.

The questions are noted as grade and subject, from grades 1-5.

Some of the questions I recall:
- T or F: The Walrus is native to the Artic

- T or F: Polar Bears' main source of diet are Penguins

- What is the height of a triangle whose base = 8 inches and area =16 sq inches?

- How many teaspoons are in 5 tablespoons?

- What constallation is the Big Dipper located in?

- What is the suffix of (I cannot recall the word)

and hot off the tv -- second grade geography for $175,000:
- Approx how much of the earths surface is covered by oceans?
A)70 %
B)80 %
C)90 %

:floor:and the guy "dropped out of school" after not knowing the answer. He had to say, "I'm not smarter than a 5th grader!"

The funny thing is that the entire show to get to $1,000,000 is only 10 questions, and the contestants get to cheat off of 10 year olds papers who are also on the show. This last contestant had to cheat from his classmates on the first three questions.

We watched that tonight. :floor:

I thought only 2 tsp. fit in a tablespoon? and I tried it too and could only fit 2. :bang:
I need to get to Capitol Hill so I can get better silverware.

Can't believe that guy dropped out and that was the easiest question.

If you want to humuliated, watch the show with a 5th and a 4th grader while you pretend to know the answers. I did pretty good, but didn't know the Big Dipper was part of Ursa Major--my kids knew it though.

:floor:They do ask spelling related questions like this one from last night, that the guy almost missed by adding the word "the" to the beginning of the phrase. The host kept repeating the phrase to the contestant without the word "the," and said, "read my lips." The question was, "How many times do the letter "e" appear in the phrase (which was given verbally), "Pledge of Allegiance?"

Contestant: "let's see. There are two e's in pledge, one in the,..."
repeat
repeat

Host (that So You Want to be a Redneck guy): "Read my lips, 'Pledge of Allegiance.'"

Contestant: "Are you trying to trick me? Two e's in pledge, one in the..."

I know I saw that. I kinda felt sorry for him. This show does make me feel really STUPID. I kept asking myself last night, where the he** was I during elementry school!!!!! Oh yes, I remember I was in about 6 different schools by the time I was in 5th grade. So, that is my excuse and I am sticking with it.

I know..... I had no idea there were three teaspoons in a TBSpoon!

It would be much easier if they were all Multiple Choice...my favorite kind of Test:clap_1:

They also asked what ship the Pilgrims sailed to America on.

The contestant didn't know, but the boy got it right.
Also had a question about a president...whom I can't remember. Every child got it right.

I was raised in a kitchen so the teaspoon/tablespoon was an easy one for me.

Cute show, but way too many commercials....that drove me crazy, but I still watched to see how he did.

I think the kids were really cool!
