They don't take up much room but do I really need to keep them? All this organization talk got to me and I started cleaning cabinets and drawers. I found a small bottle that I had put a few of Tyler's baby teeth in. Should I keep . . . or throw away?

God, I love Moms. Y'all are a trip.
Ladies, discarded/lost teeth are disgusting. I mean, what do y'all plan to do, make bracelets from them? My wife even had a friend who saved her baby's umbilical cord stump. Now THAT is disgusting.
My two-year-old will start to lose teeth soon enough. Once he does and they are collected by the tooth fairy, they are gone!
BTW, what is the going rate for the tooth fairy these days. I used to get a quarter per tooth. Of course, this was in the 60's, so with inflation and all......
I don't know if I was high or low, but $5 was the average. Also, if we had tokens left over from a local arcade, those went under the pilow.
I have my son's teeth (which were cleaned in peroxide before the tooth fairy came) and the PE tubes that were put in his ears when he was four. When the first tube fell out, I mistook it for a dried-up Spaghetti-O stuck to his pillow.
My aunt was babysitting when Wesley's umbilical stump fell off. Grossly enough, she didn't notice when it happened and I never found it in the house. We suspect the cat may have eaten it.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.
BTW, did I tell y'all we have another on the way? Utter, complete surprise. I'm still in shock, because we can't afford it. But I keep resolving myself by saying it's somehow God's plan that little Sam will now have a sibling.

Congratulations!!! Mr & Mrs JB!!:clap_1: If we always waited until we could afford them we'd never have kids! It will be so great for Sam!

Congrats JB. Do you know what causes this? I mean, you said you were surprised and all. J/K....I know you do.
Not only do I have all of Jesse's teeth, (hey the dentist gave me these cute little plastic molar teeth with a lid to put all of them in). I still have the EPT test that showed positive!!!!
Good luck JB!!!!

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. JB. We only had one, but I wish now that we had had more than one. Speaking of God's plan, I guess he knew I only needed one.

I hear ya. Mine is spoiled also, but honestly, I haven't seen a kid yet that isn't spoiled, siblings or not. Onlys get all the love but - they also get all the wrath which isn't always good.

One and done was our plan, too. Oh well. Amazing how seven minutes of passion turns into 18 years of commitment.

Seven minutes.

I heard this is how Jeffrey Dahlmer started out.
But don't throw them out now. They make a great science project. You can see how long it takes for them to decompose in coke, kool-aid, juice etc. Science is such funn.

Only 18? Thanks for the chuckle!!!
And congratulations, too. None of us would have babies if affordability were an issue, practically speaking, but thank heavens they come anyway. You won't be rich in the $$ for the foreseeable future, JB, but you'll be rich, rich, rich in ways beyond your wildest dreams.

I think I have them all ... somewhere....!
I have always tryed to give the kids something like $1 coins, or something like that. One child lost a tooth at church camp (along with another of her friends), so they got cross necklaces instead of $$. Luckily I was a chap. on that trip. Another time, she lost one at the beach, so she got a little flip-flop ring. Funny thing, the notes from the tooth fairy are what they look for- could care less about the $$!
we haven't any lost teeth yet - but that is coming very soon. and I really like your idea of little gifts instead of $$. think I'll go that route. maybe $$ when he's a little older.
and fairy dust! OL - this is really cute! I'm doing this too. maybe not to the window, but a little on the pillow. maybe it won't freak him out too much.
jdarg - you kept your wisdom teeth?
that is gauche. gonna put 'em in your jar?miss kitty - love the jar idea. may have to do this too.

My mom saved all of ours in little baby food jars.
She's really mad at me because I can't find mine. She says I lost it, I say I never got it.
I have a friend who saved something even more gross than an umbilical stump (I know several people who did that). I won't even say what it was... totally disturbing.

And does anyone know WHY these things are saved?
And y'all thought saving my wisdom teeth was gross.

Well... you guessed it. I didn't say anything.
Saving a placenta isn't all that rare in the circles I run in. Not unusual to dry it, and capsule it for it's hormonal properties in dealing with post-partum depression. But, foreskin creeps me out.
eta: placentas can also be planted under trees
