I'm not much of a celebrity watcher, unless it has to do with food. So I learned today that Emeril Lagasse has purchased two properties in Sandestin (recently married to someone in the Lovelace family?). Now this may be old news to super celeb sleuths so if so I apologize for being late with the news.

Also a rumor that he will be doing a demo at Gerard's in Baytowne sometime soon.

What is the deal with them? Don't they heat up hotter than a meteor with minimal fuel? I can't wait to get one. Can you smoke on them too? I know you want a low heat for smoking but thought the egg was beloved due to it's uncanny heating ability.

Miss Kitty got one for Mr. Kitty so if you see her before Audie, ask away. I hear Miss Kitty's gotten some really good meals courtesy of the Green Egg. My brother has one and all the hype is worth it. Talk about the incredible things it does to meat...right Audie?

yea, it uses lump charcoal and will get up to 750 degrees in no time. it will actually withstand heat up to 2000 degrees is what the literature says. i don't know all the technical stuff with it because i don't use it - that's his job. i know he sears the steaks at 700-750, then slow cooks them. and it takes 6-8 hours for him to make ribs. you can smoke on it too i believe. a 25 lb bag of lump charcoal will last several months . we like it because when you cook on it in the winter,no matter how cold it is your cooking time stays the same. we have a large one which is perfect for 2 people and we have the mini egg he had to have for vacation which will cook 3-4 burgers or 2 steaks depending on the size.

all food in NO = wonderful!   (well, except a few touristy places)

Heh, Punz fussed today b/c I ate 3/4 of a huge muffelatta and a bowl of seafood gumbo, then topped it off with an Italian ice at this incredible Italian Ice Cream parlor called Angelo Brocato's which has been open since 1905. I had a blood orange ice and she had rum raisin ice cream. They also do spumoni(sp?), gelato(sp?), all sorts of cookies, pastries and coffees. Your DNA would probably sizzle at the sight/smells/tastes!

I don't know about anyone else, but my DNA is in big overtime food lust after hearing about that lunch. I think Merman and I are overdue for another NOLA visit--been about three years and that's too long!

The one and only time I went to NO, I went to the restroom at a restaurant and there was a shim (discussed in another thread) in there with me. Dressed better than me, I might add.

Oh yeah, after Angelo Brocato's we went to this religious goods store in a very marginal neighborhood-it was nothing but the most offbeat stuff. I like my Catholic candles as much as anyone, but some of the goods there were truly bizarre. Ok, totally voodoo stuff. Punz had to whisk me out of there while I was looking at the merchandise because it 'felt evil'. What, a candle that you light in order to hex someone is meant to be evil? :funn:

Dbuck, you absolutely must rent the movie "Kinky Boots." I think you'd get a kick out of it.

Ha. One of our fave new dining spots has a shim waiter/waitress, and she does a damn fine job.

Skunky, the first time we took my son to NOLA, he was about 21. He loved the little walk up bars along the street...loved, loved, loved NOLA...period. But when we went to the voodoo shops, he wouldn't go in and when we went to the cemetery, he refused to get out of the car.

OK. You gotta tell me your desire though-money, love, fertility, luck in legal matters, stay away, control, shutup( not kidding), all the Saints for their special powers. Wax skulls, devils, Saint statues, soaps and potions for all purposes under the sun and moon, books, incense...you name it!

 Desires? Who would have thought buying candles would be so complicated. All of the above sound good, except for the fertility, keep that one for yourself and punzy. :D
