Beach Altercation

So, I just returned from a fabulous weekend in Seagrove. Of course the beach was packed out...which is a good thing since it indicates the oil spill isn't scaring folks away.
But as I was relaxing on Saturday morning, I witnessed an altercation between two other groups of vacationers concerning umbrella positioning. Here is how it went down:
Group A got there around 9:30 and set up "camp" next to me. Around 11:30, Group B arrived and set up directly in front of ( and I mean, RIGHT in front of) Group A. The Group A leader approached B camp and asked, "Are you planning to stay there all day?" (Duh!) Group B leader kinda puffed up and says, "Yeah...is there a problem?" Pretty sure he already knew what the problem was...Group A guy says (nicely) " Could you move down a bit...we can't see the ocean. Group B guy proceeds to let him know what he thinks of this request in an agressive manner complete with F-bombs, threats to his face, and what have you. Group A guy, not to be outdone, fires back just as loudly and rudely. My and my husbands heads swiveled back and forth between the two foes for several minutes as they continued to see who could be the most obnoxious and loud. Finally Group B conceded and moved their camp over a couple of feet, with their fearless leader still shouting sarcastic remarks all the while. Boy, did he love that F-bomb!!!!
So....even though there was some entertainment value for us, I wonder who was in the right? I think Group A was right. There was plenty of space for B to set up so that they weren't right in front of anyone. Just seems the considerate and friendly thing to do.... :blush:

There is polluting the beach with spilled oil and pulutting the beach with bad behavior...I don't like either one. One of the attractions my famiy has is to the civility of the folks at SoWal. I do not want my kids witnessing folks spewing the f-bomb. Sounds to me like some folks had spent far too much time in traffic getting to the beach...or we need a better class of patron

I think I'll sell my lot there and buy a boat!!!!!

You know what they say about boat owners..........there's only two days of owning a boat they're happy.

Ahh...I see now.

Group B leader was (I think) my cousin's friend from Atlanta. I got his side of the story...nothing about F bombs though.

But I will ask my cousin. She is the sweetest person in the world.

If the IDs are correct Group B leader is A. A stockbroker with a large national company and B. Dad has a place at Adagio so he may not know how to act around mere commoners.

Will find out.

As a beach chair vendor we unfortunately see this all the time. Most curious though is when we have a single delivery to an empty beach, we'll find that the next person to set up their own gear gravitates towards ours. People tend to migrate towards other objects it seems.

Aside from that observation we all know the hotter it gets the hotter tempers get. However, you have to think someone who is that confrontational on vacation isn't new to confrontation.

That always cracks me up - people crowded together when you can go less than 100' away and have your own wide open space. :idontno:

Think that sums it up quite well.

You know what they say about boat owners..........there's only two days of owning a boat they're happy.
~The day they buy it and the day they sell it~ ;-)

1) Strike day 1.
2) Have friends who are between days 1 and 2 :lol:

Just gotta observe... anybody who boldly sets up directly in front of others at the beach is probably also an infamous line cutter in dire need of a spanking and serious time out. :angry:

This happened at Grayton once when a GF got hoppin mad at a group that parked in front of her. 'I came here to see the water,' she exclaimed. Pouted all day, then when cute guys from the infraction jeep came over to chat it was, 'You're fine, don't worry about it.'

So danged funny! :funn:

Buz, I'll bet there are already several versions to this altercation.

Group B had an orange kayak...does that help? Ooops...maybe I shouldn't be trying to help identify these folks....;-)
