A note from SWCC regarding upcoming workshop: It is that time of year when our local black bears become more active as they prepare to "den" during the winter. Bears have been spotted in the Topsail area, Grayton Beach and Seacrest area. They are busy now foraging for food for the winter. Although they don't "hibernate" as people often think, they do become less active during the winter so Mother Nature tells them to fill up now. SWCC and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will present a forum on living with bears on September 16, 2010. It is an excellent presentation with lots of photos of our local Florida bears and good information about their behaviors and needs. Perhaps the most valuable information is how we can help encourage them to stay in the forest and out of trouble with people. Please help us get the word out. Thank you.
