Calling All Cats - Hobie Regatta

Some of you may remember the "Rags to Riches Regatta" where 16' Hobie Cats raced from Grayton to Seagrove (and vice versa). The competitors usually started off in the morning with a bloody mary or two and ended up with several kegs and a bunch of grins at the finish line. Well, we're going to do it again this 3rd of July. So save up your stimulus and/or tax rebate checks and buy or borrow a Hobie Cat, and be there in rare form. We're gonna bring back the spirit of the good old days. Stay tuned for more info. ;-)

The last I remembered was "Riches to Rags" which was Seagrove to Grayton. Glad it's going to be tried again. It was always a blast for us "Rags" folks. Have many good memories of this and have photos somewhere in a box. Maybe I'll have to see if Molly S. needs a partner; ; however she was a "riches" and I'm still a "rags." 🙂

I was so close to having Skunky talked into a Hobie cat yesterday, and then he went with another kayak. I wish I'd seen this thread first!

I bought the sail kit for the Hobie. You can participate, too.

Rags to Riches

I am new to Sowal and loe seeing information about Rags to Riches being discussed. My family was involved in organizing it for many years. Here is a picture from the starting line in 1984. We are hoping to pick up where our parents left off. Last race was 1994. It ran for 13 consecutive years as an annual 4th of July Event. This year we will race from Grayton to Seagrove (Rags to Riches). Any help recruiting sailors would be much appreciated. We have four boats confirmed. Flyers/Posters are being printed and a website is under construction. I saw where someone mentioned Molly S. I was her crew one year. We had a blast!
