Car Buying Tactics

Anyone have any good tried-and-true methods? We're in the market for another car, not new, but used with low mileage. We hardly ever buy cars. We tend to fall in love with them and drive them until they fall to bits (which is what is happening to mine, '93 Explorer with 130K miles on it--the poor thing needs to rest in peace). So we're not very experienced with what to do at the dealership. I need some bargaing tips!

One thing that confuses me is that we've done the research on the internet so we know what the ballpark price ranges are for particular mileages and years. We're going to take a look at a car this weekend. The ad (think it was from autotrader) said "Bring in this ad for the special internet pricing on this car." What does that mean? I thought you bargained for cars? Does this mean that even though it doesn't say "no haggle price" that's what it is, and that's what the price is, firm?

Not sure if you have purchased a car yet but my company is a Hertz Franchisee, we purchase all our cars and sell them when they reach around 20,000 miles. Most still have some of the full factory warrenty left on the car.

We have people from all over the southeast buy cars from us. We do no haggle pricing. If your looking for a SUV,we carry the Toyota Four Runner and the Honda Pilot, the Pilots will not come out for sale untill later on this year, but the Four Runner is a great SUV. Check is out and let me know if I can help.

Have you ever seen the way people mechanically trash rental cars? I wouldn't knowingly touch one to purchase, unless it was a 1966 Hertz Mustang. ;-)

:lolabove: That's too funny Audie! I bet he WAS shocked!! If you were to sell that car you'd probably get close to what you paid for it with that low mileage. Honda's depreciate very slowly anyway, but you're a used Honda buyer's dream!;-) But a Honda dealers nightmare...you don't have to come back very often to buy>:floor: I'm the opposite - I put about 25,000 miles on my car yearly.

As far as trashing our cars, yes I think some people do trash our cars, but they are also charged if they do. Our best form of advertising is our repeat business, and we have many people that have purchased several cars from us. We have been selling cars since the late 70's so I think we have a pretty good product. First you get a car that is almost new, and you dont get hit with that new car depreciation which you lose around 2,0000 dollars when you drive it off the lot.

As far as the 66 Shelby Mustang, dont have that but I do have a 2006 Hertz Shelby Mustang!!!!!!, Number 460 of 500 made

Thanks for taking an interest in this thread, Bamabeachbum. We're looking for something different that what you're offering, but you never know, you might have exactly what someone else needs. :clap_1:

Me too, bamabeachbum. I've been on the internet 'til I'm bleary eyed, collecting info about different trim lines, average costs for varying mileages, you name it. All I can say is that it's a jungle out there!

If your looking for a convertiable I might just have a car for you. The president of our company is about to get his new car and will be selling it. He is the only one that drove it, its a Toyota Solara. Great looking car. His new one should be in the next week or so.
