CBS Superbowl anti-abortion commercial

Almost every year, the Super Bowl is the most-watched television program and it's not just football fans who are responsible for the massive viewership. The annual game has become a social event replete with parties and non-football fans who tune in to see highly publicized halftime shows, inventive commercials and episodes of promising new TV shows afterward.
This year is no different except that when viewers tune in next Sunday, they probably will see a 30-second anti-abortion commercial funded by the far-right, religious Focus on the Family organization but they won't see a light-hearted ad for a gay dating Web site that features two men and another that's gay-themed. That's because CBS executives said the network doesn't accept advocacy ads.

The Super Bowl ad will apparently feature the quarterback (TEBOW) and his mother, who was advised to abort the pregnancy that resulted in his birth. But she refused, and, lo, unto her a quarterback was born. It will no doubt be a very heartwarming spot. I guess the point is that if Tebow’s mother had followed the doctors’ advice, the world would have been deprived of a desperately needed football player and there would not have been a Heisman Trophy winner in 2007.
Here's the ad CBS won't run:

A website called ManCrunch.com, which is a dating site for gay men, wants to buy a spot for its new ad during Super Bowl XLIV on CBS. (See the video of the ad below.)
UPDATE: CBS rejects Mancrunch.com ad, CNBC reported
Man Crunch spokesman Dominic Friesen told theNew York Post that CBS claimed all the commercial spots during the Super Bowl were sold. Friesen maintained that wasn't true:
"It's clearly a form of discrimination that we're getting the runaround, that we're not being told the truth. Quite frankly, there is a lot of ad space available -- a lot of the companies that typically advertise during the Super Bowl are not advertising this year."

CBS has given preliminary approval to an ad from Focus on the Family featuring Tebow and has said it will welcome advocacy ads if "responsibly produced."
It's not unusual for a network to turn down an ad for the Super Bowl based on content. The Post reported that CBS turned away a GoDaddy.com, which has skirted the line of edginess in Super Bowl commercials in past years.
Watch the ad and see if you think CBS should clear it for the Super Bowl. -- Sean Leahy

I do think it's funny that the mancrunch ad has those signs in the background, NO ENTRY, the stop sign with the arrow right in between them, This Equipment starts and stops Automatically....

:floor:

Mango, what is your opinion on these?

On Sunday, I like to choose how many times I want to be preached to, so I will not be watching the Superbowl.

I only watch it for the funny commercials and half time wardrobe malfunctions anyway. But, the mancrunch commercial from a marketing perspective is a problem because most men would be like Ewww, and woman shaking their heads saying what a loss to us wenches. If they countered it with two woman kissing, the men would get all the pleasure and woman would be shaking their heads again. It's a no win for all teams situation. ;-)

Mancrunch succeeded in its attempt to create a buzz and never had to buy a second of air time. They KNEW CBS would never air the commercial. Good for them (Mancrunch). And as far as Tebow goes, love or hate him, he's got a big stage and a lot of fans. Let him follow his dream and live his life as he sees fit, without the hate. I'll also add, I'm a Tide fan, and yes I momentarily enjoyed his sideline tears.

Gloria Allred Says Tim Tebow?s Super Bowl Ad ?Misleading Advertising? | ChattahBox News Blog

The ad features Tebow and his mother Pam, in which Pam Tebow relives a harrowing tale of being pregnant with Tim, while on a missionary trip to the Philippines. Pam Tebow says she fell ill, and was told she should get an abortion, but she choose life instead, and the result is her strapping and talented football hero son.

In an interview with RadarOnline, Gloria Allred claims that she doubts Pam Tebow?s claims, because since 1930, abortion has been illegal in the Catholic country of the Philippines. The anti-abortion laws are so strict in the Philippines, that exceptions are not allowed for rape or incest, or even the health of the mother. There is no law in the Philippines that expressly authorizes abortions in order to save the woman?s life.

According to the account in RadarOnline:

?Allred says she believes it an impossible scenario to believe that Philippino doctors would of ever suggested abortion as a viable option for Tebow in the first place. And when you learn that physicians and midwives who perform abortions in the Philippines face six years in prison, and may have their licenses suspended or revoked, and that women who receive abortions ? no matter the reason ? may be punished with imprisonment for two to six years, it?s easy to see why.?

Does anyone really care what Gloria Allred thinks? I mean really. Please, to those this "commercial" offends, rest easy, your little world will not be affected in any way. Your beliefs, lifestyle, or decisions about snacks and dinner will remain unchanged. This "commercial" is not for you. Everything on TV is not necessarily intended for YOU. But maybe, just maybe, someone will get a positive message from it and who knows....?

The boy + boy commercial wasn't very good nor was it offensive (relative to what airs on tv daily). But regardless, I'll let you in on a little secret. The ManCrunch folks never intended for it to air. They masterfully executed their strategy to scare CBS with it which became a story. This "controversy" landed them millions of dollars worth of exposure without having to pay for a SuperBowl ad.

Regarding the Tebow ad- I believe there is a time and a place for every message.

I'm not entertaining during this year's event. But if I was I probably would be doing my usual fish tacos.

It doesn't matter if it is true or not IMHO. What is best is to keep the SB FUN!!! Free of didactic advertising!

If the ad were running any other time then that's fair enough. This is about SUPER BOWL commercial space. At least that's how I see it :idontno:

The best part of the right wing press release: and, lo, unto her a quarterback was born.

They won't run the mancrunch because, as one poster puts it "Two guys having sex on a couch in front of the camera, well, jeewiz," I didn't see anyone having sex, but that's just me.

They will run this though:

double standard from the network is all I see.

Replace the women with men, and I'd bet CBS would approve that too. Add heavy kissing and or petting regardless of the sex of either party and I'd bet they wouldn't.
