Washington, D.C.
Cheney forgot: On 72 occasions in a single interview, then?Vice President Dick Cheney told the FBI he couldn?t recall any role in exposing Valerie Plame as a CIA operative, a newly released summary of the 2004 interview shows. Cheney told agents he didn?t remember how he first learned of the identity of Plame?whose husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson IV, had disputed White House reports about Iraqi attempts to buy uranium ore from Niger. He also was fuzzy about whether he had directed his chief of staff, I. Lewis ?Scooter? Libby, who was later convicted of perjury in the CIA leak case, to reveal her identity to reporters. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which sued to get the summary released, said Cheney showed ?an astonishing inability to recollect even simple facts.?
I see no reason to doubt his word.

Clinton could have prevented the whole thing by doing something about the Taliban. He had ample warnings throughout his tenure as President. So in a not-so-funny way, he's to blame for it all. Maybe if he had spent a little less time splattering blue dresses, nobody would have died on 9/11 and we wouldn't be fighting two wars? Just a thought.
Right.......so should have Sr. Bush and even Ronnie. You look at the history of how we have treated the middle east and it is far, far deeper than the Clinton era....
But since you are throwing the blame....who took their eye off the prize in Afganistan and put the vast majority of our forces in Sadam's back yard to fix his daddy's failure? Perhaps if "W"(or the penguin) would have stayed focus we wouldn't be fighting two wars....As you would say....Just a thought;-)

For the record, Clinton did make efforts to strike Al Queda. He did fully warn the incoming administration of the eminent Al Queda threat. If anyone in the US govenment was to blame for allowing 9/11 it might be the National Security Advisor, Condolezza Rice (and a host of other incompetent cronies).
Do you guys really want to compare "not remembering" the details of an affair over 15 years ago to willingly committing this country to the biggest foreign relations blunder in our history?

Did this leak lead to the deaths of 4,000 American Soldiers?
No but the Cheney Agenda (as acting President at the time) meant lying to the entire world and the American people about weapons of mass destruction in Iran did!

Nope. This was something only Clinton had the opportunity to address. The Taliban did not become a threat to us until his tenure.
The first major military activity of the Taliban was in October-November 1994 when they marched from Maiwand in southern Afghanistan to capture Kandahar City and the surrounding provinces, losing only a few dozen men.

You know I'll be more than happy to step up and agree that Bush made some serious mistakes, or that Cheney did the same. But why do democrats endlessly defend their man Clinton? What can that possibly accomplish? He is culpable in all of this, plain and simple.

Great point - interesting to ponder as to how progressed the Terrorist Cells were at that time and would we have been attacked regardless?

As Kurt mentioned in another thread: people will see things as they choose.
Clinton lied about trying to kill or capture Osama bin Laden. He had three oppportunities.
I find it interesting how history can be rewritten in this country.

Bush had a chance to prevent 9/11 regardless of past history of previous administrations. He's like a relief pitcher with a chance at a save and ends up with the loss instead because he throws a wild pitch with the winning run on third.

Bush and Company totally fell asleep on the Al Queda issue and let our country down because, for him, "small" (as in inattentive) government is/was "the" Republican catch word du jour, and I might add STILL is.... one in which they based their entire national and international policy at the time...

I don't have links to the rather common knowledge event that a tomahawk missile strike was initiated by Clinton against the a meeting of the Al Queda leadership in Afghan. It failed. A simultaneous strike in the Sudan took out what was believed to be a chemical weapons plant. I'm not saying the Clinton administration did a great job of curbing Al Queda. As I recall, he was battling impeachment for most of the last year and a half of his terms. He was battling impeachment and the FBI was being used to interview Monica's mother, among other stunningly stupid things because of one blow job. Seems like the Republican blood lust for Clinton's demise may have diverted quite a lot of our country's resources, money, and attention, at a citical time in this country's history. It sure was a good thing that Cheney and Dubya came in to straighten things out. Whether anyone wants to remember or not, 9/11 happen on Bush's watch, the Iraq war was initiated on Bush's watch, the Afghan war was ignored on Bush's watch, the debacle of Katrina relief happened on Bush's watch, and the economic collapse happened on Bush's watch. All I say is "heck of a job, Brownie!"

Taliban - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Taliban would have probably been a non-issue IF George Sr. wouldn't had turned his back on Afghanistan after the Russian Invasion ended in 1989. The US strongly supported them during 1979-89 then turned their back on them after the evil empire left. The lack of support after that resulted in a warlord mentality that eventually resulted in the rise of the Taliban in 1994 at the begining of the Clinton years. Basically, George Sr. had a golden opportunity to take care of issues in Iran and Afghanistan during his tenure.

So let me get this straight...
Clinton was cheating on his wife by getting blow jobs from 25 year-old interns in the Oval Office, then stood up in front of the cameras and lied about it to the American people. The opposition party makes a big deal out of it, which distracts the President of The Untied States from doing his job in the last year of his presidency, which results in the worst attack on our native soil since Pearl Harbor, something our enemies had been planning for over six years... any you think it's the Republican's fault?? O-K.

No disagreement with you there on Afghanistan and Bush Sr./Clinton. The United States had no reason at hand for staying involved, but long term, we ended up paying for it.

Must be getting late...we actually agree on something
Bottom line.....Policies from both sides of the isle for over 30+ years created "our" mess in the middle east. We have had numerous opportunities since the 80's to neutralize our problems without success.
My fear/belief is that the last 8 years has only thrown a huge fuel on the fire that will result in an inferno for many, many generations.

I thought the book and the movie Charlie Wilson's War explained a lot about this. We really did breed our own enemies there.

Therefore, with Russian no longer in Afghanistan and Bush Sr sticking it to the war stricken, impoverished and government lacking Afghans, then is no wonder that their control fell into the lap of the Taliban and extremist!
Conclusion: We should have minded our business and let Russia play their game and we wouldn't have had 9/11......It's Reagan and George Sr. fault!

Gotcha, I knew you would take the bait. All of the above phrases are from Bill Clinton's depostion in the Paula Jones affair. More than 200 episodes of amnesia in a single day. Does it matter or make anything Cheney did right? No. But your response in post 3 is so bitter and hate filled I felt like maybe I could help you realize that politicos, no matter their stripes, deny, deny, deny when they feel pressure, and giving yourself ulcers over any of them isn't worth it.
Relax.
That's the funniest thing I've heard in days!!!!!!!!

In case anybody's keeping score, that's 52 "I dunno's" for Cinton talking about an affair approximately 20 years ago, and that's 72 "I dunno's" for Cheney about an incident of treason approximately four years ago involving the single biggest foreign relations blunder in American history. It is hilarious that you find it hilarious.
