I would like to know more about this woman and her work advising the U. S. military in Iraq:

Sounds like one very smart lady is having a very positive impact. Kudos to her and the people who listen to her.

Very cool!

IMO we need more people like this lady - willing to tell the truth instead of being a toady and just trying to not rock the boat.

Your comment made me so sad. I had tears in my eyes. You have no idea what has been going on since the middle to end of the 80's throughout my tenure...over almost two years ago, dealing with linguistic issues. It's a little late for me to get into it. I will think about how I am going to answer, because I might name a few names that blasted wonderful programs. And I might add right wing, religious, Military Intelligence extremists, who could be easily blackmailed because of going out with the boys and not wanting their wives or churches to know about it.

I do sound angry. Maybe I am because I see so many young soldiers who have died for our country and the multiple thousands that have been severely wounded protecting our country.

I have to think about this one...

I have been to the Viet Nam Memorial. And yes it does make me sad. But not like the sad I felt when reading your post. It didn't have anything to do with the soldiers we have lost in Iraq or the thousands that have been wounded.

I am being truthful with myself. When a young kid raises his hand he takes an oath of office to protect our country. His/her oath does not specify which countries he will or will not deploy to. Don't be so literal. It is normally the POTUS that gets us into any conflict with the help of our political appointees.

I don't believe we should be in Iraq and never have. And if you spent any time in the Pentagon over the last 6/7 years and you see all the wounded from Walter Reed being pushed through the halls of the Pentagon and you would be sad also. Maybe sad is not the correct word to use, it is more like it makes one feel kind of sick. These young kids are not being pushed for us to see. This is an outing for them. Most are so excited to be in the "Pentagon", you should see their faces.

And yes, I had personal friends that died in the attack on the Pentagon. I could have had more. I worked on a daily basis with a group of about 30 guys (military and civilian) that had just moved out a week before (due to renovations) from the main section that was hit.

what sickens me as a vet, is that we are all so comfortable with our lives that we do nothing to stop these wars. do you think that any recruiter would explain to an 18 year old the potential consequences of serving at the bottom of the mi complex?

No, I don't beleive the recruiters tell the WHOLE truth. By the time a soldier becomes a recruiter he/she has a few years and retirement is looking pretty good. Then comes the quotas. No makee you outee. How many Recruiting Battalion Commanders do you think make Colonel. Not many. It is the kiss of death to their career.

The kiss of death assignments for an Army Officer:

- Recruiting duty
- Active Component /Reserve Component Integration
- Special Security Officer (SSO) for MI guys

And no, I don't believe we should be in these wars. Find some of my old clips. Stay home and protect our homeland....something like Homeland Defense/Security.....

Happy Thanksgiving.
