CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO PROHIBIT NEARSHORE DRILLING
TALLAHASSEE – State Senator Dan Gelber is asking Governor Charlie Crist to bring our state legislators back to Tallahassee to vote on placing on November's ballot a constitutional amendment that would forever prohibit drilling in state waters.

“I strongly support the efforts of Senator Gelber to establish a constitutional amendment prohibiting nearshore drilling in our state waters,” said David Pleat, House District 7 candidate.

“The Deepwater Horizon spill should forever put an end to efforts by our elected officials to force the Texas oil industry on our state,” he continued. “This amendment would ensure our economic and environmental safety from politicians who place special interests above our state’s well being.”

I might vote for such an amendment, what is the definition of "state waters"? I think it's something like 10 miles out from the coast?

I think any effort in this direction is a good step.

Does anyone know if Obama is going to reverse his decision? If not this effort may be moot.....

The state doesn't have any control over the areas he opened up in the gulf.

We need to get very serious about NO DRILLING IN FLORIDA PERIOD!If anything, this spill has shown us that deepwater drilling can be just as dangerous, if not more so. It has to be banned in all Florida Gulf waters.

For the Gulf of Mexico they extend three marine leagues from the coast, equivalent to 10.36 miles. For the Atlantic Ocean they end three miles from the coast.
