Beach Fanatic

I find it shady (scary) that the candidates for Walton BCC with significant donations get their money from various developers and a lot of LLCs all registered with the same lawyer in Fort Lauderdale (Davie). LLCs that deal in real estate and development. If voters knew this would they still vote for them?

The exception is the lone Democrat whose donations come mostly from local individuals.

A Google search also shows that Cecilia Jones received funds from same LLCs registered with that law firm. I'm sure there are more commissioners and candidates as well. What's the deal? Would we find certain people in Walton County have a connection to that law firm in Davie?

Is there something unusual about several individual "companies" with different names and the same address making contributions to candidates in Walton county? If you'll look at past elections, The late M.C. Davis was the largest contributor to elected officials through different entities using the same address. And didn't Jay Odom do the same thing?

Yes there have been shenanigans known and unknown. Odom and/or similar types still have their fingers in our pie. They got popped a few times with relatively minor election violations in the past. The local SBA was formed as a front for this type of election buying.

If you&#039;ll look at past elections, The late M.C. Davis was the largest contributor to elected officials through different entities using the same address. And didn&#039;t Jay Odom do the same thing?</blockquote>Yes there have been shenanigans known and unknown. Odom and/or similar types still have their fingers in our pie. They got popped a few times with relatively minor election violations in the past. The local SBA was formed as a front for this type of election buying.

Teddy Stewart is a pompous ass, just watch some old planning commission meetings. This is not someone who will represent the people.

My question is, if the County Administrator/ relative already has the position before a Candidate is elected whether this applies. I have read a Ethics Ruling a long time ago about a School Board member who had a relative employed as a teacher. If I remember correctly it was about a vote on pay. It also seems that there was no issue with it because the teacher was represented by a Union who negotiated wages and terms and condition of employment and the School Board member was voting on to accept or reject the proposed contract. I am sure that there is a way to seek a ruling on that question from the State Ethics Commission.

(2)(a) A public official may not appoint, employ, promote, or advance, or advocate for appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement, in or to a position in the agency in which the official is serving or over which the official exercises jurisdiction or control any individual who is a relative of the public official. An individual may not be appointed, employed, promoted, or advanced in or to a position in an agency if such appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement has been advocated by a public official, serving in or exercising jurisdiction or control over the agency, who is a relative of the individual or if such appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement is made by a collegial body of which a relative of the individual is a member. However, this subsection shall not apply to appointments to boards other than those with land-planning or zoning responsibilities in those municipalities with less than 35,000 population. This subsection does not apply to persons serving in a volunteer capacity who provide emergency medical, firefighting, or police services. Such persons may receive, without losing their volunteer status, reimbursements for the costs of any training they get relating to the provision of volunteer emergency medical, firefighting, or police services and payment for any incidental expenses relating to those services that they provide.

For those interested the link will take you to the Ethics Commission for the State. If you are so inclined 2 cases that I took a quick glance at may or may not alleviate your concern.
CEO 91-27
CEO 94-39

With that said, I venture to guess that although this may make folks uncomfortable the Candidate probably already has a ruling from the Ethics Commission.
