Dems running out of ways to mask spending

?Frankly it was fiscally imprudent ... to have taken those offsets that basically were agreed upon in the Senate, had been passed in the Senate, had been supported on a bipartisan basis and then were removed and used for health care reform in order to have more spending in that legislation,? said Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine). ?We had an agreement, and they should have made that sacrosanct in that legislation.?

Democrats admitted Thursday that they?ve created a problem in how to pay for unemployment benefits and have no consensus on where to find the money now.

Pay-Go rules come back to bite Dems - Meredith Shiner - POLITICO.com

Pretty funny actually. They scarfed a whole bunch of "savings" for healthcare from all sorts of other bills, like unemployment, so the healthcare bill wouldn't look as bad as it is. But now they have to find the money someplace else, and they are running out of options.

Sadly, even though they know they have this problem that didn't stop them from pushing through the unemployment extension, this week, with a 10 billion dollar price tag and no way to pay for it.

Printing Press perhaps?

I guess we already learned it is a big no-no to mess with unemployement benefits, regardless of whether or not we can actually pay for it..........in retrospect, I should have made claim on mine; afterall, I paid for the dern thing.

True...I agree that a billion is a small fraction, but it all goes on the same tab. The government has turned into the neighborhood drunk who keeps putting drinks on his tab and, then, gets indignant when he is actually asked to pay for it...

I know how to pay for it - take away the credit card/expense account of every politician and consultant the government has.

And maybe you sir, or madam, in your infinite wisdom or through your main news source Fox News, you can supply us with a very different accurate total, maybe one that is substantially less and more "palatable", perhaps. Obviously though, you got my point at some level.

The real number you're looking for AC is about 750 billion, spent over six years. We deposed an evil dictator and built a fledgling democracy with that money. Now, don't misinterpret me, Bush should have fully funded the war. As been stated many times by conservatives on the board, that was unacceptable.

But since the left just loves to pull that figure out every time someone mentions Obama's fiscal record, lets do some comparing:

During Bush tenure of eight years, of which five had republicans controlling congress, and included tax cuts, two wars (one justified in my book), a recession he inherited from Clinton, and the beginnings of a recession he passed on to Obama, the public debt outstanding grew by about 2 trillion dollars. That's really bad. But Obama supporters have nothing to trumpet either. Obama has been in office now for about 15 months. Over his tenure, during which dems have had control of congress, public debt outstanding has grown by... 2 trillion dollars.

8 years vs. 15 months, and Obama's own forecasts paint a bleak picture going forward. If you want to compare Bush v Obama, no problem, I'll take that comparison any day of the week. Your man is doing a dismal job of managing the nations finances right now.

Conservatives continue to whine and point fingers when it comes to spending and no money to pay for it, well look no further than your mirror if voted for Bush once and hang your head in shame if you voted for him twice.

From The Week Magazine;

How did the deficit get so big?
When George Bush took office in 2001, the U.S. had an annual budget surplus of $236 billion, thanks largely to a flood of tax receipts generated by the dot-com boom. Bush swiftly enacted tax cuts aimed mostly at high earners, which transformed the surplus into a $150 billion deficit in just one year; there hasn?t been a surplus since. Then came 9/11 and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, which were fought on credit, and have cost close to a trillion dollars so far. The Medicare drug benefit, which Bush and Congress enacted in 2003, will add another $1 trillion to the deficit by 2015. But the greatest damage was inflicted by the 2007?08 Great Recession, which drove down employment, profits, and tax receipts. In one year, the government?s tax revenues fell $400 billion?17 percent. At the same time, Washington laid out $154 billion to bail out troubled financial institutions and $202 billion on economic stimulus. The deficit soared.

Bush was the arsonist who struck the match and set the country on fire with all the conservatives cheering him on. Now Obama comes along to try and put the fire out and clean up behind this drunken frat boy and the conservatives are over at the hydrant turning the water off and pointing fingers and screaming "I want my country back". Give me a friggin break.

I really don't care who started it, who made it worse, who is falsely blaming who, whose party is better, whose source is the most biased ........

What I DO care about is HOW ARE WE GOING TO FIX IT?

Seriously, just where do you think we would be with McCain in office?

It's funny, Bush supporters had their head in the sand about Bush's fiscal mess for eight years, and now they're stuck trying to defend his record. I have to wonder if Obama supports are repeating that mistake.

It's going to be much worse. Many will deny they voted for him. It will be like the Carter voters.

I haven't seen an Obama bumper sticker in months.

I can't say for sure and neither can you, but it is my firm conviction a hellava lot better off than we are now. Anyway, its a moot point.

I assume you live in the panhandle of Florida though, right? I've seen bumper stickers round these parts that say Obama=Osama. This area isn't really representative of the country.

I beg to differ. While the bumper sticker to which you refer is totally inappropriate, this area very much represents the good common sense of much of the country, IMHO. The country was totally misled by the promises of Pres. Obama and Congress is a disaster! Most in this area realize that even if they don't want to admit it.

This "BLAME BUSH GAME" is getting old folks. Your Obama is making mistakes by the dozens...of course you guys will never admit that...but you know it, and most of us old Republicans and Tea Party folks know you know it!

Based on McCain's most recent remarks- I'm thinking we would have already invaded Iran.

So- take your pic. We have a maverick spending money we don't have to insure more Americans or a maverick (who now says never really was one) spending money we don't have to start another war.

Every Obama supporter I know (myself included), feels we are better off than we were a year ago. That is without question the case for me by any measure.
