Does Everybody Hate Pres. Obama?

Article below provides support for my long-time thesis that the current president is a moderate who has no ideological constituency.

Barack Obama learned how to ?do? politics in Chicago & Illinois, first as a community organizer & then as a state representative. He learned the art of the deal--compromise--giving all parties something. He learned mutual back scratching & log rolling. It turns out that compromise no longer works in polarized national politics.

Obama's politics fall short of the ideological purity desired by the Right & Left.

Right-wing & Left-wing politicians have a constituency, but moderate politicians have no constituencies.

Maybe this offers some insight:roll: Impossible for me not to view this as racism. Looks like the "seed" is only a factor in some of those "other" religions, but not the ones of which Graham is associated. I just can't seem to view this as simple well intentioned ignorance.

I remain amazed and really, sincerely, want to understand this. What can it be that is faulty in so many people?s thought processes, their ethics, their education, their experience of life, their understanding of their country, their what-have-you that blinds them to the fact that you can?t simultaneously maintain that you have nothing against members of any religion but are willing to penalize members of this one? Can you help me with this?

Set aside for the moment that we are handing such a lethal propaganda grenade to our detractors around the world.

You can?t eat this particular cake and have it, too. The true calamity, of course, is that behavior of this kind allows the enemy to win.

This offers the best summary of the issue that I have read. I am disgusted at Franklin Graham's behavior and attitude and at CNN for giving him that forum. This is not the first time he has attacked people of other faiths.

In the above article Dick Cavett expresses what I hope is the view of most Americans...IMO, it is past time for more of them to speak up and stop this insanity.

In fact, maybe it's time for Pres. George W. Bush to step up and state again what he said so eloquently after 911...even he understood the difference between terrorists who happened to be Muslim and all people who believe in Islam.http://groups.colgate.edu/aarislam/response.htm#Statements by President Bush
Statement from President Bush (September 13th, 2001)

I urge - I know I don't need to tell you all this -but our nation must be mindful
that there are thousands of Arab-Americans who live in New York City
who love their flag just as much as the three of us do.

And we must be mindful that as we seek to win the war
that we treat Arab-Americans and Muslims with the respect they deserve.
I know that is your attitudes as well. Certainly the attitude of this government,
that we should not hold one who is a Muslim responsible for an act of terror.

We will hold those who are responsible for the terrorist acts accountable and those who harbor them."

I guess one thing that stands out were the video feeds of countless crowds cheering from Islamic Countries around the World after the 9/11 attacks. Why would a peaceful religion revel in such a catastrophe? For some folks it doesn't take a gun in their face to recognize evil.

Islam admittedly will never conform/integrate with Western ideals so we're supposed to conform to them? Too many whackos killing people in the name of Allah.

This is the age-old mantra of the xenophobe: fear of "the other."

In America, the Irish will never fit in. You know how they are.
In America, the Italians will never fit in. You know how they are.
In America, the Jews will never fit in. You know how they are.
In America, the Negros will never fit in. You know how they are.
In America, the Hispanics will never fit in. You know how they are.
In America, the gays/lesbians will never fit in. You know how they are.
In America, the Muslims will never fit in. You know how they are.

But, that is missing the point that: the (above) is their behavior (of course who knows really how many videos there actually were? or was it a few being played over and over again, or whether those people were actually Muslim believers, but that is a different issue) we are responsible for our behavior.

And, if America is the country we say it is based on the values we say we have, then, there is no place in our lexicon for this kind of behavior.

It is not about them--it is about us!

Those who killed people and who would kill people, need to be stopped and held accountable for their actions, but we can not mistake an entire population for the acts of a (relatively) few...that is a path that has no end except in our own destruction.

Uga you can't lump Muslims in with any of the other groups you listed. You're dealing with a culture that admittedly cannot get along with the Western World because of basic fundamental differences. If you're not Muslim you are not considered an equal worthy of life. This is a difficult concept to get your head around but that's it in a nutshell. They even bring their own set of laws (Sharia).

It's not the religion, it's the people involved with it that count.

Jenny, Christian bashing is all the craze now because they don't threaten to kill you if you cross them. Even Hollywood refuses to show Islam in a bad light. the latest flick 2012 the director admittedly pulled footage of Mecca being destroyed because they received death threats. All the Christian monuments were fair game.

You're talking about 500 years ago I'm living in the present.

Glenda, That's a silly argument. How many videos does it take? Your innocent Mom just got murdered and an entire religious group of folks are shown cheering in support of her murder. So if there are 20 videos it's ok to develop an opinion of them but not if only 19? Why not get to the root of the issue and poll Muslims and ask if the 9/11 attacks made them proud.

Values? We're turning into a nanny state. America is losing it's identity. Our leaders don't represent the people rather themselves. Our values are misrepresented by the current administration. Come Nov the people will set things straight.

Apparently all of the Muslims I know did not get this memo. :sarc:
Please tell me what "fundamental" differences actually exist between Muslims and Americans. Not the ones you THINK exist, but some with actual evidence.
