Does anyone on the panhandle coast place eternal reefs in the gulf. If you have never heard of this, please check out "eternalreefs.com". My husband and I are very interested but would prefer the panhandle vs. Sarasota. Thanks.

I have heard and checked into this, (hubbys adamant about me doing this for him) and have been told that they would consider doing a service here if there was enough interest. I think the best thing you could do would be to contact them and let them know you are interested. We know many Captains out of Destin that are willing to do this but dont know of any place around here to actually make the, what we affectionately call, "Grouper Ball". I believe their issue is getting the permits required to place them in the gulf being costly and not enough interest would make it economically impossible. Hubby has told me to just go get some quikcrete to mix his ashes with and have one of his buds drop him over the side. LOL. But eternal reefs offers a much nicer package I think.

I wish more people would respond to this inquiry. It is such a good idea for all the beach lovers. I'll contact Eternalreefs.com and tell them of some interest along the panhandle.

It's perfect! Exactly what I would I want. I have a deep interest in this as I already have directives for my ashes to be cast in the ocean off Santa Rosa Beach when the time comes. Please keep us posted on what you find out.

Why do you like this better than having your ashes scattered over the ocean?

I guess it's the thought of providing an environment for life to flourish that is appealing. Out of the ashes comes new life sort of thing. Yes, I realize it's the concrete form that actually does this, but the symbolism is there just the same. The real truth is it won't really matter to me right? I think wine, bare feet in the sand, and a sunset sound like a pretty good way to be sent off. This just seemed like it fit me and my family.

I guess I am irresponsible as I have zero interest in even thinking about formal arrangements. Perhaps when I get older, it will be more of an immediate concern? :idontno:

Regardless, my body will be meaningless. I hope to live on in the hearts of those who love me. May my acts in life inspire that love...

The extent of my planning is that I am an organ donor, but that's because I plan to be around for many more decades. 😀

Hubby likes the thought of us being able to come out and fish "with" him, and him still being able to "provide" food for his family.
