Fact Checking Moore's Capitalism

NEW YORK ? Despite the title of his new movie, Michael Moore really hates capitalism. He says it's a scheme for businesses to profit at the expense of the little guy.
The provocateur filmmaker is campaigning for an end to what he says is the "evil" in our economic system and a return to the days when our lives weren't so defined by money. It's an ambitious theme, but some of his arguments in "Capitalism: A Love Story" fall apart on closer inspection.

watching Michael Moore sing acapella on Jay Lenno was worse than waterboarding!

One point I think he makes pretty clearly is that the banks that took (and some that have paid back) TARP funds did so without any interest or repayment terms. Would any American be able to do that with a personal loan? No.

you must admit, even though he takes license with the facts, he's more often right than wrong. he was on gm back in 1989. i believe he was right about iraq being a waste. i also think wall street is pretty wide open to criticism here.

Personally I think Michael Moore has it all wrong. Now that he's so popular I think he should do movies about the following:

How health care for all will ruin the country.
Taxing the poor is a good way to starve them to death.
Gay marriage will cause brimstone to actually rain down on us.
The deficit is a necessity we should nurture for our great grand children.
Climate change is good, those uppity snow flakes should have been the same!

Seems that the right wing folks just do the opposite of whatever he says as though he's some sort of profit and not just a guy with a camera.

Ironic Michael Moore would film an anti-Capitalistic movie. Is he donating the money to charity? NOT! What a hypocrite. The only thing Moore more bloated than our deficit is him.

Maybe his new film will bring more buyers to real estate rather than the stock market.

I watched his film on health care (available at the library for free), and found it raised a couple of questions, but he really is trying to push an agenda, rather than solve any issues. I find his comparisons to be a looooonnnnnnnggg stretch.

Michael Moore push an agenda? Surely you jest. I wonder if he's thought about what bringing down capitalism would do to the donut supply.

Good old Capitalism is not totally on its way out in this country--the future (the part without the "Right"-eous" folks here chirping in ) will be more modified and adopt more elements of European socialist model. Big deal.

Since we are fact-checking movies can someone explain to me how they got the tiger IN the hotel room in the first place in "The Hangover"?

And what was the chicken for?

I saw the edited version so I think I missed some stuff. ;-)

What is the difference between capitalism and democracy?

So glad you asked, as it seems many Americans equate the two.

Democracy is a theory and system of governance based on the power of the people or citizens, particularly in decision making, whether by direct democracy or representative democracy (what we have in USA). More details at:

Democracy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Capitalism is an economic and social system in which the means of production are privately held, wages are paid to laborers, and profits are distributed to owners/investors from the sale of goods and services in the marketplace. More details:

I have never been a Michael Moore fan. I do agree with most of the questions he raises and the points he makes, but his delivery turns me off- he takes complicated subjects and instead of putting out a product that many people would want to see to learn something, he makes the subject even more divisive. It's too bad that his presentations don't do more to be persuasive to moderates who are on the fence on issues. Instead, his movies just feed the people who already agree with him, and drives away the moderate to conservative crowd, which is unproductive IMO.

I just had a funny movie thought- Michael Moore and Kirk Cameron.:floor: With some sort of evolution/creationism theme. If this movie ever gets made, I thought of it first!
