South Walton Fire District

Earlier this year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 140 into law which now makes it “legal” for Floridians to set off real fireworks on three specific holidays: Fourth of July, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

If you choose to shoot fireworks in our community, it is extremely important to remember that South Walton is surrounded by thousands of acres of state forest and wild-land area. Just recently on May 6, 2020, 343 acres of wild-land and over 50 residential structures were damaged/destroyed by a small flame from an illegal burn - Mussett Bayou Wildfire

Despite the new law it is still illegal Under Florida Law (Florida Statute 791.02) for any person to use or explode any fireworks during any other day of the year except on the 3 days listed.

Signing a waiver at a firework stand only protects the vendor and does not provide any protection to the purchaser who uses the illegal fireworks. Furthermore, anyone using illegal fireworks can be held liable for any injuries or damages accidentally caused by their use.

SWFD encourages you and your guests to not take the risk and "Leave the Shows to the Pros".
