I am flying tomorrow to see my girl in NC. Haven't flown since the new restrictions....if I take a carry-on, will it be searched or just scanned? I have not paid attention since I did not think I would be flying this soon.

There is only one restriction or your bag will be checked.
NO CLOTHES with the exception of a wad of underwear.
You may bring aerosol cans, matches, lighters, a helium can so you can make funny noises while on the plane to make the other passengers laugh.
Oh, and don't forget. They don't make Starbucks the same INSIDE the airport, purchase one before you go in, and bring a doctors note that you will non-functional if you cannot bring it in with you!
Seriously, they have lifted quite a few items from the ban

honestly, it's pretty much the same as it ever was. you just need to check any liquids and sharp objects. don't buy starbucks, support your local coffee shop.

Glad I made your morning.

Basically you can take any liquid or gel through security with you as long as each container is at most three ounces and all of the liquids and/or gels fit in a one-quart baggie. But you can buy anything you want in the shops that are beyond the security screening area.
I would think that every company that makes cosmetics, tooth paste, shampoo, etc., would be rushing to get out 3-ounce sizes. Hubby is leaving tomorrow to go to Europe for a week, and CVS had no three-ounce plastic containers for transferring his toiletries into. I guess he'll buy stuff after he passes security.
It's definitely more of a hassle for a female. I have a boatload of gel and liquid makeup and personal hygiene products. It'd be a pain in the a$$ to transfer all of that to three-ounce containers. But I can't depend on finding comparable products at airport shops (not to mention the expense). I mean, do they have $200+ a jar Natura-Bisse Diamond moisturizer at the airport shops? I think not. My brother is a manager on the Delta ramp. He tells me how luggage is abused. No way I'm checking my luggage with all of my expensive cosmetics inside. And there *is* a difference.
What to do?
Hopefully by the next time I fly, TSA will have figured out how to sniff out the bomb gel from the hair gel. Otherwise, I'll have to go to Needless-Markup and load up on samples.

BR- why didn't he buy those little toiletries at CVS. They have them and they are less then 3 oz. ? There in the bins. I also have those little hotel bottles of shampoo, lotions etc., and I refill mine with my favs instead for short hurdy gurdys. I went and look at some of my cosmetics since we are traveling next week, and I thought they were larger than 3 oz, but they weren't, and I wear Estee Lauder.

Okay, we must have overlooked them. We'll go back tomorrow. Thanks.
But I just looked up Natura Bisse. The $250 jar only contains 1.7 ounces (what a rip-off), yet the jar must weigh half a pound. So does TSA go by weight of the contents or weight of the container plus contents? Guess I need to look that up.

i think they go by contents
get the little printed bottles with labels, not the clear little empties and fill them yourselves, or label them with a marker, or the man shall hassle you for what's in the little bottles - and put them in a freaking quart-sized ziplock bag so's you can un-zip the top of the bag as you are supposed to do when you put it, by itself, into the lovely gray tray as ordered - all that and then they apparently only x-ray'd it, not checked it for whatever serological hoo-haa i might have been carrying - i thought that's what they were preventing but who knows what's going on inside that box
american lost our luggage on the way out (as usual) and delivered it 2 days later at the curb not the door, so carry at least one change of clothes in your carry-on bag

why not just pack everything in your checked luggage (very carefully) and then just carry on your reading material. very simple. its kind of nice not lugging all that stuff with you on and off the plane.

I agree with you Tootsie. We have been traveling to Europe and within the US within the past six weeks and if you just plan ahead (I do travel with samples ~ I can certainly get by for a week or two without my favorite creams) and carefully pack everything in your checked luggage it is not such a big deal. I must confess that I did miss not being allowed to carry a lipstick and gloss to Europe since it is such a long flight (I hate having dry lips) but I was able to puchase makeup (duty free) on board. Now those restricions have now been lifted ~ so problem solved. :clap_1:

Good trip. I packed my liquids in a clear quart bag and got checked for a flat, lip stick container.....not an 1/4 inch thick. Security was very nice.....no over zealous workers. Overall a good trip. They look at the weight on the item...not size. Checking is the best, but was taking some items I could not risk losing...a bride's maid dress.

:clap_1: Glad you had a good trip. In New York at the major airports, going through security is long winded and I have even been checked by female security agents under my clothes
) but I rather see high security than them miss something.beats on hood
Hubby had a bit of trouble finding 3-ounce travel sizes at CVS. He said that they had tons of shampoo and conditioner, but only one choice of deodorant. He packed his quart baggie this AM and couldn't fit everything in -- had to leave the mouthwash behind.
No way I could fit all of my toiletries into a quart baggie. You know, they're only slightly bigger than a sandwich bag. Guess I'll have to check my baggage next time I fly.
