So, the Crossfit gym I go to here in he Nooga issued a Food Challenge. It sounds really easy. What do y'all think? :idontno:

here are the rest of the details:
Buy-in: $50. Why? Because a) your money on the line makes you more likely to stick with it. b) At the conclusion of Yannuary, we will be hosting a dinner for all participants at 212 Market. Your buy-in will fund the part, and go towards a raffle prize (cash dollars) for all who finish the challenge and attend the party. Other prizes will be available as well (which are sure to rock!).

Drum roll please...
In the month of Yannuary, consume ONLY the following:
Meat (including fish and poultry)
Vegetables
Fruit
Dairy
Nuts

Pretty simple, huh?
Consume only those things for the duration of the challenge. One more thing: only ONE calorie-containing beverage allowed each day, not counting milk and protein shakes. These are allowed anytime. This means you get your choice each day: one glass of wine, one beer, one orange juice, one coconut water, one gatorade, one soda (if you must), one bourbon, etc. ONE. per day. No stacking allowed. (ie, none all week and 7 on Saturday night).

Let's get this thing started! Who's in?

Is 30A Crossfit part of that?

Hey Abby,
We are not a part of this particular challenge but we did something similar in October and will be doing another one in the spring (just in time for bathing suit season). We also included a bonus for getting 8+ hours of sleep a night (it's amazing how many of us don't do that). You can check out some of the amazing results here.

That being said, I'll take on this challenge with River Otter. I can't have him coming in for a vacation workout looking fitter than me.

Oh yeah...I almost forgot...we are also planning a Paleo potluck at the gym at the end of the month. We do these every couple of months. Bring a dish that complies with the rules that River Otter stated. You might be surprised how well you can eat. Stay tuned to our website for details.

First of all Flattery will get you everwhere. I don't think 30aCF has to worry about me being more fit than they. Couple of studs they are

Did anyone bring the Meatza? I've been dying to try that one.

I will say, much like Crossfit WOD's (workout's of the day) this challenge is harder than it reads. You can eat good but it takes more time and you need to be creative unless you go with the meat and salad approach.

Tonight I plan on trying to make spaghetti out of squash (one of those vegies that I don't really like). In just 3 days I've already lost inches and even though I don't weigh myself I'm sure I'm down there too.

Yep. We provided the meatza. It was a huge hit. Here's Tony's video recipe. We're looking for a SoWal restaurant to put it on their menu. That would be cool.

Hey RO...if it's Yannuary, does a Klondike bar count as a dairy? 😀 please don't ban me....I'll leave quickly.

Today I'm starting protein and veggies only, I do better with out dairy except for cream in my coffee. Also have a problem with nuts and portion control, will miss peanut butter but will add it back later. I may do some beans if I feel like I'm not getting enough calories. Protein shakes with unsweetened cocoa, whey or hemp protein, and veggies are o.k. Fruit has too much sugar, even though its natural some fruits have a lot of fructose. Will add berries in later.

So here's an update. Last year we had a similar challenge in March I think. It was a little more loose than this on but basically no grains, on potatoes (except sweet pots) and no sugar. I followed it at about 75%. I would splurge on the weekends. Still had to go buy new dress pants and jeans.

Well just 13 days into this challenge I need to go buy new pants and jeans again. I will caution you if you ever take this one on you WILL go through sugar and carb withdrawals. That hit me hard last week. I'm about over it now but the last 3 days SUCKED!.

Another great benefit of this challenge is learning many different ways to cool / prepare meals. Happy New Year y'all!

Give it a shot. At least the meals you eat are usually amazing and filling.

Would LOVE to but: 1. My condo is occupied by our faithful snowbird and 2. I have a company retreat that day

 Wonder how many meatzas show up?

The meatza turned out great! Thanks for the video! I did learn a couple of things:

1. Use 95% lean meat. I wasn't paying attention and used 80 / 20. It shrunk, lol!
2. Use a thicker pizza sauce. I just used Whole Foods Pasta sauce and it was a little runny.
