Here is a little tale for my friend who jeers at me every time I mention our Velveeta habit. It is summer so along with our 5 teens who still live at home, we have several teen friends over. We are feeding them around the clock and having a great time. HOWEVER, we have this one kid who is with us for two weeks. The first week he was great but now things are disintegrating as he gets more familiar with us or tired of being away from home or whatever. So, I got up with his mom on text messages today to ask for advice. We figured out some ideas on dealing with the attitude and then started talking about food. The kid just isn't eating. He says he likes chicken or tacos or mac and cheese but when it is time to eat, he doesn't even try it and says he doesn't like it. We are perplexed. Our kids eat anything...and everything, no one is picky and here comes this guy. He asked Ed how long he has been a cook...that went over well 😱.
So his mom says he likes mac and cheese, hot dogs, pizza. I said, we told him we were making mac and cheese just a couple of hours ago and he told us he doesn't like it.
Mom asks, "KRAFT?"
I said, "No, Velveeta.?:idontno:"
She says, "No wonder, he only likes Kraft in the blue box!"

WTF
I ask you SWGB, isn't all mac and cheese (except the generic brand) the same goopy, salty, cheesy mass? I mean, is there a difference that would make a kid turn up his nose and say, "You are not my parents and can't force me to eat that?" (Not that I will force him, heck that leaves more for the rest of the tribe).

When does school start?

No, it tastes totally different. Different noodles, different cheese texture, different flavor.

Though any kid who is getting a free lunch should just shut up and eat it IMO!

they do taste different but all boxed mac n cheese is just boxed mac n cheese so ease up kid!

that being said, I'm from East Texas and a casserole just aint a casserole without a layer of velveeta- and that includes lasagna!

The peas we cooked tonight are two different shades of green. He wants us to separate them. Me thinks the issue is deeper.

Is he grumpy because his mother forgot to pack his loafer lightner?

Seriously though, this woman must spoil him rotten at home. I do understand the difference between boxed mac n cheese. There are basically two kinds, gloopy crap in a bag and dry mix. Personally I prefer the dry mix and then we throw in a good heaping handful of shredded cheddar. The gloopy crap in a bag is just oiled down Velveeta anyway and never tastes right.

Velveeta...Unwrapped

P.S. The kid in that ad died of Velveeta poisoning. :funn:

Me thinks he is either a spoiled little sheet or needs some (different) meds for his OCD.

me thinks he can seperate his own peas. He's lucky he's not visiting Mel Gibson's house. Can you imagine what he would say about seperating peas????:idontno:😀

P.S. How long do you have this kid? Can you straighten him out so he is a decent human being instead of an entitled little brat?

Otherwise I see lots of items left on the beach and SUV's parked in 2 spaces in his future.

He's getting on a bus back home to mama in the morning. After coming in and waking us up at midnight demanding the phone to call friends and telling us we can't tell him what to do, we are giving him the heave ho. I've had lots of kids come through here, this the first one we have ever had to send home early.

Sounds like something needs to be seperated besides his peas.

In my opinion the kid can do without.
Growing up if we didn't like what was presented to us at meal time, we were told we could do without. And especially if we were guest in anothers home and acted that way......watch out! We knew what time it was.
jezz.... kids these days.......

I got to spend my morning in the Greyhound station in PC. When I was in college I'd buy a 10 day pass and travel around seeing friends across the country but haven't been around a station in a looonnnng time. After an hour of standing there, the depth of my disdain for this child became clear. I really don't think I could have put any other kid on that bus. I would have been hovering and protecting like a mama bear, especially after the third LEO came in with yet another group of what I guess were recent parolees (I deduce from their laceless shoes and the mug shots visible through their mesh "luggage"). But after days of this kid telling me how smart and adult he is at 15 and how I don't know sheeet, I figured he might just learn something today. (Also, his mom decided to drive to Tallahassee and meet the bus rather than have him make the transfer and sit in station alone for an hour).

I handed him over to the driver and didn't look back. I did wave at the LEO's because we are, afterall, kindred spirits ensuring that our offenders get out of town

We were allowed to have input as to what we wanted (once a week when the grocery list was being made) and slightly adjust what was served - gravy or dressing or sauce on the side, take your portion of salad before an item you hated was added (and only because you were making said salad) etc.

Other than that, you ate what was served - and Mama Scooterbug had no problems saran wrapping our plates and serving them to us at the next meal until we finally ate it!

I hope the little princeling has an educational trip back on the bus! ;-)

15 and acting like that. He needs a trip to the woodshed is what he needs.
I'd have told the kid, here's the rules:
  • Here's what time we're sitting down to eat a meal
  • Here's what we're having
  • If you're not there, it's not my problem
  • If you don't eat the meal, you'll have access to nothing else until the next meal
Eventually he'll get the picture or he'll get hungry. I believe the worst thing a parent of any type can do is start catering to a kids whims such as what kind of soda or juice they'll drink or what clothes they'll wear.

When we raised our kids, we told them how much we would pay for a pair of jeans or shoes. If they wanted a more expensive pair, then they can go mow some lawns and pick up the difference. Otherwise they wear what we buy. Same goes for food.

I would be mortified if I was that kids mom...was she not embarrassed at all to know how her kid was acting?

Luckily, mine is a little sheet for us in the privacy of our own hell....but an angle when he is out in public 😀
