Is anyone else out there just sick and tired of jesse jackson and al sharpton?
Who made these two jack----- the racial and moral compass of this country?
While I see their displeasure in what Imus said, I also see a whole slew of folks who make their living insulting people of all colors, sizes, whatever. Anyone watch comedy central? Chapelle insults white people constantly. Mind of Mencia? Insults EVERYONE. Why aren't these people suspended?? Why aren't jesse and al calling for their resignation??? :idontno: Bottom line is if you don't like a person's humor, and that's what his show is, whether they are black, white , asian, alien, or Whatever, then turn off the damn TV, radio, or internet . It's called free speech for a reason. Apparently its only free for some. And network television, radio, hollywood, etc don't have the brass to stand up to these two racist idiots. Halle Berry is making a movie called, "Nappily ever after" How bout that jesse, al? Will your daughters be insulted then? I think not.:bang: I welcome any thoughts on this subject.

I thought this thread was going to be about Donald Trump's show, You're Fired!

I think Sharpton is funny and fairly sharp. Jesse on the other hand...
Both just like face time. I didn't see the Imus show, not a fan. I did hear only a snip-it, and Imus could have stopped, long before Sharpton and Jesse shoved their feet in his mouth.

I have noticed that people have changed the definition of the word racist over the last few years. The word racist used to be defined as one who believes one race to be superior to others. Now, the word racist also includes the definition for bigot, which is simply someone who doesn't like other races. I think more the term racist raises more of a flashy headline for news stories, and I also think there are probably more true bigots than true racists (by old definition) in our country.

Personally, I think there are more important qualities upon which to judge people than skin color or race.

Imus be crazy! I turn on the CNN Headline news at 10:00 and there's the story, press conference with the Rutger's Girls basketball team. So I switch to CNN and there it is again. So since I can't get any news I switch to the sports channels. There it is again on three of the ESPN channels.
Granted, I don't agree with what he said, or just about anything he says. But that's why I don't go out of my way to watch him, and generally change the channel, be it radio or tv at the time, because I can, and I have that right to NOT listen to the blithering idiot.
I also believe there is a time and a place for everything. Yes the comedians are getting away with it because that is their job, and they are found primarily on the comedy channel.
Sort of like wearing the SOWAL thong on the beach. Not a problem, because that's where it belongs.
However, wear that same thong, to let's say Fish Out Of Water, and that's how you'll be. Not to mention thrown out.
As to whether Imus should be fired, that's yet to be seen. This wasn't even an issue two weeks ago when it happened, till the rest of the media via bloggers ran with it. If I were a sponsor I might consider where my advertising is done. If the revenue shares start to falter, then the ax may fall. But as long as ratings are high, and the money is rolling in, he ain't going nowhere. Time will tell though.

I can tell you there is not freedom of speech for many on the job. If you voice your professional opinion to the wrong person in a 'will to work' state, they can fire you for any reason, no matter how many good years of excellent service you devoted to an institution, you can have your a$$ canned. There is no such a lawsuit as 'wrongful termination' in a 'will to work' state, unless it includes discrimination against race, religion, sex or a disability only. There is actually a free reign on emotional bullying in the workplace in this country in a will to work state. If you have an unprofessional manager, get out while you're ahead. Mine even went as far as to say during a one on one meeting with me that she wanted to stay at my beach house, along with requesting a seafood item my hubby sold at the time. Needless to say I didn't come thru with either. Never have played the bribe game! FTS!

We as Americans need to worry more about our little lives, than about these big guys. I'm so sick about hearing about the Pac Man problem here in TN I just wanna :puke: . He's an admitted bad a$$. I don't think our young uns need that influence.

That guy, Imus, is not losing his job. He's only getting 2 weeks suspension. I don't feel a bit sorry for him. Sorry.

Maybe he'll thnk more before he lets that stuff run outta his mouth like that. Women(like men) work hard for the money sooo hard for it honey... it sickens me to see anybody much less a rich, white guy sayin' that stuff about those precious girls workin' hard to make sumpin' of themselves professionally. :pissed: It's hard enough without the help of the likes of him.:nono1: I better git some fresh air fer a spell.

a fully paid suspension. why should he give a rat's @$$? The big buys at whatever channel he is on, are waiting for public opinion before making a decision.

Maybe Imus should take advantage of his time away and seek out some speech therapy, not on what to say or not say, but how to annunciate and stop mumbling.

This is exactly what I said last night sunspotbaby about free speech.
I don't listen to IMUS and his comment was certainly uncalled for, but he's been spewing this garbage for years. Walk into any minoroty neighborhood in the Boroughs, and you'll see minorities calling their own worse sometimes in greeting mind you.

If you ask me this is some kind of political manuever. The Clinton camp hs been courting Al Sharpton aggressively and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they didn't have a hand in this somehow.

But Mango, I thought Al Sharpton was a spotless champion of the downtrodden? He hasn't ever been involved in anything, oh I don't now, controversial up in New York, has he? ;-)

Mango, very interesting political theory there. I don't watch Imus very often, but I know for a fact he's insulted damn near everyone in an elected office...
democrat & republican. He calls Hillary "the devil". It wouldn't surprise me if the devil herself is behind this publicity stunt of Sharptons. Thanks for the input.

Here's an interesting quote of Al Sharpton's. Whose berating who here?

?White folks was in caves while we was building empires... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek hobos ever got around to it.?
-Rev. Al Sharpton in a 1994 speech at Kean College, NJ.

(I changed the word to hobos, but he used an m instead of b  )

Oh, and skunky, your siggy line is cracking me up, good things come in small packages, then you have these huge boxes of strawberries. :floor:

Pacman gets arrested alot and usually has guns and stuff. The NFL decided top suspend him for a year. He's a troublemaker-playmaker that should be replaced on the team.

:clap_1: excellent point uncle skunky. not me. I would rather listen to Howard any day. but I don't listen to him either. do I think Imus should be fired for such unprofessional statements? no. he should be ignored, and regarded as the unprofessional radio jerk that he is.

sunspot - regarding Al and Jesse - I admire their dedication and commitment. I believe they have made a difference for many in our country... I am grateful for them both.

You are so right! Finally someone has the balls to say it! Do people really want to live in a country where everything we say is scrutinized and possibly punished? Our founding fathers must be disgusted on a regular basis with what has been done with our Constitution. If you want to call me a name go ahead, I am secure enough in who I am to not be threatened and I certainly have better things to do than police citizen's words.

I don't listen to Imus, I don't like him. I also don't listen to Rap which if you check the lyrics of some of these Rap Artists you will find the same reference to what Imus has said. They repeat it over and over again. Do you see people standing in line trying to get them fired by their record companies. Do you see people in outrage over what they say. NO, you don't. I do not agree with what Imus said. I do not agree nor do I like some of these rap artists berating woman on a daily basis. We do live in a country of free speech. They and he have the right to say what they want whether it right or wrong. I have the right and the ability to turn the channel or turn off the radio. Thank GOD.

Don Imus is a self important bore who impresses few but his employers. I'll bet his numbers rival infomercials. He has set himself up for the media lynching he deserves. I see him leaving to be overpaid on satellite radio.

The young ladies at Rutgers should be enjoying the success of the season that they have had by making it to the Final Four instead of having to deal with Imus and his hurtful words. As the mother of a female college basketball player I know it takes years of hard work and dedication just to get to play at the college level much less at the top of Division 1 level. Once they make it to the collegiate level they must of course keep up their grades. They say it is like having a full time job and I certainly believe that. Many of the male basketball players hope to use it a stepping stone to the pros but the majority of the women use the opportunity as a way to get a college degree. Some of these young ladies wouldn't have the opportunity to go to college if not for athletics. As for Imus, if he get canned for this, thats OK with me. I just don't know what these girls have done to deserve his vicious words. Sorry, I guess I missed his joke. :pissed:

darlene:

I hear what you're saying about rap music, but I really see that as more of a reflection of a segment of american culture. and it captivates me to have a glimpse into this culture. it's like history being written to music. like it or not, much of it is life on the street, or life in the hood, or wherever. some of it is just crap, no doubt. but it is a form of art - whether appreciated by others or not.

Imus, on the other hand, is just being an ass, a bore, and mainly ignorant in his statements. I think his own statements speak to his ignorance. no need to fire him. he is demonstrating his own stupidity. people don't really want to hear someone like that. he has nothing to do with art or anything useful in the world.

I just hate that he's gotten this much media attention. people may just decide to tune in...

Yes to all of the above. Especially the last part. I really felt it was unnecessary for the entire Rutgers team to get up there and defend themselves. They didn't have to! By doing so they just fueled the debate. It is not them vs. Imus, it is his big mouth vs. his career. He is revealing himself; what he said was truly not personal. I am not defending him, mind you, but I would have liked to have seen the Rutgers team prove itself to be above all this nonsense by merely releasing a statement that was ghostwritten by Miss Manners. You know, the kind that makes you say "oh snap!"

But it has all gotten so noisy. He is a moron and should just go away.

Good point. When I was growing up, if you called someone a name which you shouldn't you got your butt kicked, so only people who wanted to fight would resort to such tactics.

I also did not listen to or watch Imus, and Inever heard anyone make any comments about his show that would make me tune in. He obviously was not worth my time.

I am disappointed in how the Rutgers coach is handling this situation. Imus has apologized, his show has been dropped, and he will continue to get press and air time from the whole thing, and probably write a book.

At this point, the best thing the Rutger's coach could do for her team is to get them back to class, studying for exams, away from this media-driven circus. Putting them through a big build-up for a face-to-face showdown with Imus accomplishes nothing but distract the women from the most important part of their academic year. I think the coach could make a better, and classier, statement by walking away, because these girls truly have "better things to do" than listen to some addled person's apology and give him more air time to boot.
