Sucks for them. Maybe when they all start open carrying it'll be safer?

I don't know about that. I don't own guns and am not a card carrying member of the NRA. I don't want to stroll past someone on the street carrying a gun and have to worry whether or not that mo-fo is crazy and fixing to go postal on someone or just some macho man happy to stroll around in public with an open carry gun.

Almost all drug violence. All gun deaths. This is happening all over the country. It's time for a new way to deal with drugs, addiction programs, and mental illness.

Are we willing to make it easier to involuntarily commit someone for a period of time to properly diagnose their mental state? And, yes, it would take more money.

What are you going to do with them after the 72 hour hold? State institutions were done away with as part of the denationalization process back in the late 60's early 70's which translated into community release. Chronically mentally ill individuals are turned back into the community with no supervision. no monitoring and no way to track whether or not they were/are taking prescribed drugs that helped keep their condition in check. Police/Sheriff departments and even prisons don't have the resources to treat these individuals on a long term basis and they again end up being released back in the Community.

There is also a connection to chronic drug abuse and mental illness. They self medicate to make themselves feel better and without diagnosis and effective treatment programs, drug abuse escalates and so does crime. Co-occurring mental health conditions and substance abuse affect nearly 8.9 million people yearly. Only 7.4% receive appropriate treatment. Few programs specialize in treating dual diagnosis.

almost all of it is black on black drug related

Do blacks need less psychological help because of the color of their skin?

Misty makes my point. Until we have a change in the way the mental illness problems are addressed, nothing changes. And that could likely include changing statutes, constructing institutions that meet today's standards, and personnel to handle it all. We need to start with a blank canvas are be willing to at least talk about all solutions at this point. It certainly isn't working the current way.

Single parent households are the problem. There is no family unit and 0 discipline in these situations. The children turn into criminals and breeders causing more problems.

Where as you come from parents that have never had a disagreement and can account for your kids whereabouts right now?

Yall can get back to me when you can make a reasonable argument against my comment. It's a fact, sorry it doesn't sit well with you. The truth hurts.

Okay, but first you can post a reliable source to your fact.
