George F. Will - Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich and the spotlight-chasing candidates of 2012

"This is because it indicates they do not understand that sensible Americans, who pay scant attention to presidential politics at this point in the electoral cycle, must nevertheless be detecting vibrations of weirdness emanating from people associated with the party."

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

I do wish the "throw them out" movement would extend to political hacks like Newt and Dick Morris. Just turns my stomach to even listen to them..

The only hope is if there is a Republican with any balls that can stand up to Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh--the Republican heads of state. Newt, Romney, Tim Placenti, Birthers, Michelle Bachman, all feel the need pledge their allegiance to the zany Tea Partiers and their base tactics--very sad.

Seems all the smart, sensible Republicans are fleeing politics all together or are being forced out altogether--Kay Bailey Hutchison, Scott Brown, etc. Very sad.

I do not understand the popularity of Huckabee. He's not a compelling candidate and has some rather extreme views on social issues. I sense he's being pitched by RINO social conservatives. I think he'll get dumped early, most of my older "true conservative" friends have not mentioned him. (They do however like Newt, which is probably due to leftover popularity from the 90s.)

I still think Mitch Daniels has a shot if he decides to run.
