This is an example of why I do not believe former Gov. Sarah Palin is intellectually equipped to be POTUS-
when speaking at the Tea Party Convention this past weekend she delivered a shot at President Barack Obama for being charasmatic and speaking with a teleprompter. Minutes later cameras caught sight of the palm of Palin's left hand which had "notes" written with an ink pen which she used as her own cheat sheet.
Unless someone beats me to it I'll try to post the clip of her looking at her hand for her talking points during the Q&A as well as the image of what was actually written on her hand.

Never listened or paid attention to the woman before, now I know why. I just listened to her speech at the tea party convention and could barely sit through 30 seconds of her speech- sorry I asked. She never caught my attention in the first place so I always ignored her. Now I have a headache. I wanted to give her voice lessons and fix her hair and turn off the video. Even if she had rational issues to agree with, I couldn't stand listening to them. Maybe I am prejudiced and partial to men. She will not be getting my vote for anything. So slap me for asking, call me a dumb bunny, and be on your way

BH, google "Katie Couric Palin interview" and watch a clip or two. Fascinating that so many otherwise smart and reasonable people believe this person should be considered for POTUS.

So make up your mind, Andy. Is it good to be an elite? It didn't seem like it when your side used this word against Obama. But now you are saying Palin (hang on, I can't see the screen because I am laughing so hard) is the elite? You really shouldn't laugh so hard when you're posting. It ruins your thought processes. Sarah doesn't have to be elite, and though you misinterpreted my meaning, to be a better politico than most of what we have now. IMO you ain't seen nothin' yet as the old saying goes.

Mango, you asked why I care about this. I guess I do care but mainly I am intensely interested. Below are a few reasons why-
For starters- I am very interested in subjects related to Speech Communication. I used to teach Public Speaking 101 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. So the fact that we have a former Governor, former VP candidate who takes home $100k for delivering a speech on camera with notes written on her hand is quite remarkable, especially considering that during the speech she is trying to score points by pointing a gifted orator down for using a teleprompter.
I am also interested (fascinated actually) that a movement fed up with how our leaders govern is looking to the person who represents, IMO, the worst of what one of its existing political parties has to offer.
Finally, I'm bored arguing about religion and this subject has seemed to have gotten some juices flowing here.

After listening to that video interview (Couric/Palin) now I not only need aspirin, but pepto bismol as well. As I said before, my first concept of her was correct, but was asking your issues with her because mine weren't based on facts. I can't actually give good
reasons not to vote for her in the future only that my gut instinct says big mistake. First impression- not potus material. I made up
my mind about her from first impression, but was backtracking to consider the facts and overall picture. I like to double check info,
impressions, and get feedback. I also like all sides of a story. I just don't listen to something and accept it as truth, neither do I ignore
something that I may not agree with, I think about what people say. I try to consider things from all angles to arrive at a decision. I
think too much- goes with the territory. I enjoy the ranges of thinking here- quite a range. Thanks for the tip

Told you guys from the beginning, don't actively follow everything in politics. I barely read the cliffnotes so to speak. Grew up with it all around me and it made me want to avoid it as much as possible. Some of you guys grew up in church and now run from it. Re-read post. I formed an impression, but since you guys were talking about it, I wanted to know what your take on it was. The only true interest I have in politics is that everyone that has been elected should do what they were elected to do to the best of their ability. Put aside kindergarten squabbling of what party are you in and get the job done. Fat chance, but possible.
What amazes me is that people are amazed and sometimes offended that everyone doesn't think like they do. I don't expect you to think like me, but at times do not feel I am extended the same courtesy. That was a general statement, not an accusation. Here is a statement people need to consider, travel, get out more, check out other cultures, everyone is not like you. When I was growing up in the south, southerners were offended if you spoke directly and didn't sugarcoat everything. Well, they sugar-coated things to your face, but then stabbed you in the back. I didn't embrace this type thinking or the racism that was rampant when I was growing up. I make the choices in my life of what I want to embrace and what I want to dispel. Thank God it's still a free country for me to do that in.

Andy, I believe you are correct that we ain't seen nuthin' yet. I believe Americans are quite capable of putting this dumbbell in the white house.First of all, I am not presently a supporter of Palin for President. Secondly, it is my firm conviction that any American having the desire, perserverence and aggressiveness can run for President and possibly win. You don't have to be brilliant or even exceptionally intelligent. A nice degree of normality will do. Witness Bush and Obama. Neither are Einsteins, IMO.
To a great degree, "dumbbell" is in the eye of the beholder and it isn't always correct.
I am not going to go into a long dissertation on what Sarah Palin says or how she says it. Many of the points she brought forth in her Tea Party address were smack on. Admittedly, some of her sarcasm wasn't. I won't comment on her voice or oral presentation skill as I can commiserate with such a problem. I have always had a high pitched voice and it grates on some people's nerves but I have learned to live with it and am not afraid to speak to groups and express my opinion, whether others consider it right or wrong. I see a lot of this in Sarah Palin. She speaks what she believes and you can be damned if you don't like it.
College degrees are, to a great degree, highly overrated. They are not, in themselves, an indication of intelligence. They are a refinement, honing and polishing of innate intelligence and someone can understand and solve problems quite well without a college degree.
Suffice it to say I like Sarah Palin's style. Most of the crap I read knocking her is just that...crap. You don't have to admire or agree with her but you would be wise to listen to what she has to say. It is what she believes and most of it is right for the working and retired citizen of the United States.

Andy, I guess I don't really understand the sentiment that it is desirable to have an ordinary person as president rather than someone who is, in fact, brilliant or exceptionally intelligent.
There are many exceptionally intelligent people among our 300 million citizens who don't say stupid things or say things stupidly. Sarah Palin is not one of them. Neither is George Bush. Although I believe he isn't performing well, I do believe Obama is one of them (but I digress).
Let's stop this nonsense with ignoring that Sarah Palin isn't presidential material. It's okay. I'm not presidential material either and neither are most on this board...

Yes, many of the things we joke about and the media focuses on are crap - but mixed in along with that crap are MANY valid reasons why she is not a good leader for our country.
I don't think a college degree or one's accent are anywhere near as important as their basic common sense and ability to learn and get things done. I don't think she has the flexibility or skills necessary to do that.
What you say is a lot more important than whether it came off your hand, a notecard, a teleprompter, etc. and I DO NOT like what she is actually saying. Some of the things she is saying do at first seem like they should resonate with many Americans - unfortunately they turn out to just be phrases, punchlines, or half-truths/outright lies to agitate a mob, not actual policies or solutions.
"She speaks what she believes and you can be damned if you don't like it."
Which really sums her up IMO - no room for debate, dialogue, gray areas, or compromise. And nothing in her message for someone who doesn't agree with her or her limited view of "the real America."

I'm sorry, but Jesus would not get elected, imho. He's a dem or an independent
This is how FOX would tear him down.
He wasn't born in America (show us the birth certificate) and he hung out with "radicals" in his day. He gave loaves and fishes to everyone, equally, so, he could be a socialist. His mothers background would be torn apart and she would be declared to have not been a virgin. He didn't care for money traders, either, if I remember correctly, so, Wall Street would be against him, and whoa, don't even start on healthcare. Can you imagine how much money they would throw against him because he can heal the sick and make their drugs and insurance obsolete. And the whole deal about helping the sick and the poor, well, that's just welfare, right. ;-)

Andy, I guess I don't really understand the sentiment that it is desirable to have an ordinary person as president rather than someone who is, in fact, brilliant or exceptionally intelligent. And that's where you're wrong! Many of the people on this board would do just as well as President as many of those before them have done. Evidently you have an impression of our President as someone who is all powerful, omnipotent and above all other citizens. I don't and feel many could be President if they had the money, agressiveness and backing to pursue the office. Your a smart man, Geo, but I often wonder if you do not think many, including some on this board, are well below your level of expertise and intelligence. I don't think they are, and while there are many I don't agree with as far as policy is concerned, there are many I feel would make as good a President as those we have had in the past. BTW, that also includes you though from all I read from you I am sure I would hate your policies as much as I dislike most of Obama's.
