UPDATE 11:15 AM: South Walton Fire District is responding to a commercial structure fire near the intersection of Gulfview Heights Street and County Highway 30A in Santa Rosa Beach. 30A is shut down east and westbound due to the emergency vehicles and fire hose on the roadway. Use extreme caution in the area.
We’ll provide additional updates as the incident warrants. Please understand we expect to be on scene for an extended period of time.
We are working in partnership with Walton County Sheriff's Office, Florida on scene.

ORIGINAL ALERT: South Walton Fire District is responding to a commercial structure fire near the 3800 block of County Highway 30A near Blue Mountain Beach and Santa Rosa Beach - this is near the intersection of Gulfview Heights Street and County Highway 30A.
We expect to be on scene for an extended period of time. No injuries have been reported.

Every picture and video was aimed at the exhaust fans on the roof. Guessing either a kitchen fire or a grease that started in a fan. That sux. Was planning on eating there next week!

UPDATE 1:15 PM: Firefighters are continuing to overhaul the involved commercial building, which means County Highway 30A east and westbound near the intersection of 30A/Gulfview Heights Street is blocked.
We expect to remain on-scene throughout the afternoon Wednesday. Please use extreme caution in the area- motorists should avoid it if at all possible.
The fire affected beloved local establishment Goatfeathers Seafood Market, to that end we extend our support to the business owners and all impacted employees.
SWFD Fire Investigators are working with the State Fire Marshal's Office to handle the investigation into the fire's cause.
Thank you to all mutual aid partners for the support and response. Additional information will be made available in a formal media release on Wednesday evening.

South Walton Fire District Officials say they expect the road to reopen around 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Firefighters responded to Goatfeathers near the Gulfview Heights neighborhood in Walton County Wednesday morning just before 11 a.m.

According to the South Walton Fire District (SWFD), firefighters received reports of flames and smoke coming from the roof of Goatfeathers Seafood Market.


Crews arrived to heavy fire on the second floor of the restaurant, making it hard to see, SWFD says. They confirmed that the building, which had restaurant staff inside at the time of the fire, had been evacuated, and then started working to put out the flames.

Crews worked to prevent potential collapse of the roof and second floor. They continued working for several hours to mitigate hotspots inside the roofline.

SWFD says a crew will stay on site throughout Wednesday night to monitor any flare-ups.

We’re told no injuries were reported. East- and westbound lanes are closed at the intersection of County Highway 30A and Gulfview Heights. Drivers are urged to follow any detours until crews clear the scene.


SWFD fire investigators and the State Fire Marshal’s Office say initial findings indicate the fire started in the kitchen and was an accident.

Their dedication did not end when the fire was out, they had someone on site 24 hours a day until just a couple of hours ago, making sure everything remained safe and secure. At this point, we do not know exactly how long Goatfeathers will be closed. Realistically, we expect it could be at least six months, and even that may be optimistic. We will continue to keep everyone updated as we make progress.
