For those who asked, go to my photo gallery to see Grandview, the project that was approved this week. It will have 35 rooms and spa suites, 22 units of on-site affordable housing, landscaped gardens and pool done in a Victorian-era vernacular.
When the telephone was first introduced in St. Helena, the first one in town was installed in the bar at the old inn, which was called St. Gothard's Inn. Their number was # 1. The Historic Society desperately wanted us to rename Grandview St. Gothard's, but it sounded too much like a nursing home to me. Might as well call it Wuthering Heights. And yes, it does offer the grandest views!

We will be doing construction drawings and a detailed landscape plan for about four months, then two months to secure bids, maybe begin construction in six months if we're lucky. I would expect an opening in early summer of 2007. It will be the place for weddings and local events. The old mansion is beautiful, photo doesn't do it justice. And the view of the vineyards and the Mayacamas Mountains to the west is just heartstoping.
The idea for the inn was my own, along with restoring the gardens to formal Victorian plantings and stroll gardens. My clients were fabulously patient and trusting about it. I want to be buried there, but not anytime soon!

Seems like you will need some photos and maybe a virtual tour.

That is actually a good idea, and reminds me that we will need a new photo of The Conch Out for the virtual tour and Rivard sites. Kurt? Let's discuss. There will be people in the house from today through Labor Day, however and it won't photograph as well with cars out front. Your thoughts?
