Click here to read a brief summary and reasoning for the projected growth in Northwest Florida from the report, A Time for Leadership: Growth Management and Florida 2060. There report was produced by the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development (CQGRD), a research center of the College of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Also, click here to read a statewide and a county by county coverage of population and land use projections.

Thank you so much for posting this, bsmarty smart. :clap_1: I had been meaning to go find it. The study has gotten a lot of press here in the Tampa area because projections are that the entire I-4 corridor (Tampa to Daytona Beach) is going to be wall-to-wall development.   Frankly I don't know how much more development the aquifer can take. Drought conditions this year have reduced the water supply (again!) and we are on watering restrictions (again!). Yet somehow we are going to pack in more people!?!?

What I notice about Northwest Florida is the vast, by comparison, amount of conservation land that exists, especially in and around Walton County. :clap_1: We may just be building our retirement home up there after all. :idontno:

TFT,

Aren't you aware that when our new major international airport is completed in 2009 area development is going to EXPLODE up here as never before! Add to that Ponch-ville, the wild animal amusement park and the super-secret Disney plans and the panhandle will make Orlando look like Small Town USA.

It is interesting that "SunnyHills" still looks like a small town on the 2060 map ...

Looking at long term projections like this is humbling ... how many of us here will even be alive in 2060 (I will be 90 in 2060  ). That is why focusing on what we have today is so important - enjoy the area for what is now, and try to conserve as best we can now, because it will change. But most likely, we will not live long enough to really see the huge changes - that is a good, and a bad I suppose.

Studies like this seem to reinforce the point of how important projects like the Northwest Florida Greenway project ( http://www.nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/florida/preserves/art12820.html ) and Nokuse Plantation ( http://www.nokuse.org/ ) are for the area. We've got a window of oppoutinity now to set aside some incredible and important conservation areas, but that window closes more and more every year.
