true representatives of the people:
Dave Rauschkolb, Dave Aronberg, and Dave Pleat.

Please review David Pleat's(against drilling in Florida) website to see the names of those selling you down the river to Texas oil-riggers. On this site is the names of those that voted for/against the movement toward drilling for oil in Florida.
David Pleat for Florida House of Representatives District 7

Please review Dave Aronberg's(against drilling in Florida) website to see alternative energy suggestions and the practical way of assimilating these seamlessly into today's timelines.
2010 News Coverage | Dave Aronberg For Attorney General

Thank you again for leading the grassroots movement of the people, Dave Rauschkolb, in Hands Across The Sands. Perfect example of one man taking action.
Hands Across The Sand | A gathering of citizens of Florida to prevent near shore oil drilling in Florida's coastal waters.

How appropriate that the three men I have mentioned are all named Dave. Does the story of David and Goliath ring a bell. We all know the outcome of that. Goliath was a giant, feared by all of Israel, David was but a young man. With nothing but a slingshot David toppled the giant.

David Pleat is a one issue candidate, running solely on being against offshore oil drilling in any way, shape, or form. He is distorting his opponents record who has stated that she is open to studying the effects of offshore oil drilling and might support it if it could be done in an environmentally friendly way. If you don't believe me, then head to her campaign website at marticoley.com where she pledges to preserve our environment.

David Pleat is not much more than a ambulance-chasing attorney who has harmed business in South Walton much more than he has helped. Not suprisingly, he is a Democrat with most of his funding coming from the trial attorneys. If you want yet another attorney in your legislature who is openly anti-business during this horrible recession, then by all means vote for David Pleat.

Marti Coley voted for the bill to allow oil drilling that passed in the House. It was only the fact that the Republican leadership in the Senate did not bring the bill to a vote in the Senate before the session ended that kept the bill Coley passed from becoming law last year. She has taken money from the Texas oil lobby to finance her campaign. No one is distorting her position.

While Dominoes was heavy handed, the fact remains, that for me, the last thing we need in the Florida Legislature is another trial attorney. Let us try an ordinary citizen for a change.

Thank you Andy, Maybe if you have time you could show the pros/cons of ordinary citizen vs. trial attorney. At this point, I would have a tendency to disagree with you, but if you present an angle I might not have considered, it might help give me a broader base from which I could form a decision. :D

Thanks for this information, I'm a one issue voter. Keeping the environment of South Walton as clean and healthy as can be. In the long run that's going to continue to keep the local economy healthy. David Pleat will get my vote.

On one hand one issue voters are one of the big reasons this country is in the mess it is in. And Trial lawyers as a whole are a scourge on humanity.

On the other hand anyone can see that offshore drilling will severely harm the local economy because of the effects on tourism and Eglin. So someone representing our interests certainly should not be voting for it.

Sounds like we need a third option.

Very good suggestion, idlewind.:clap:Thank you. All options should be considered in an important decision like this. Please propose another option and the reasoning behind it so we can be fully informed and not narrow-minded.

I can only assure you that Marti Coley is sensitive to the environment. Like all of us who were born and raised in the Walton and Bay county areas, Ms. Coley admires and wishes to protect the beauty of our area. Poor planning of the past has led to scattered high rise condos and horrible traffic flow in Bay County; however, the Bays have been well-preserved and much of the stormwater concerns regarding the new airport appear to be much ado about nothing.

There has to be more than two absolute camps of develop everything versus develop nothing. While I no longer think there is a camp that wishes to develop everything, there is still a camp that wants to develop nothing. No person living in this area will vote for or allow anything that puts military missions in jeopardy. We all know that Tyndall and Eglin are the backbone of our local economy year round. The same goes for oil drilling and allowing it to negatively impact our beaches. The hands across the sand crowd don't care if there is a solution that allows offshore drilling that has limited impact. They would prefer to cripple the ability of our state and local businesses to explore potential sources of energy to free our dependency of foreign oil. What evidence is there that opening up exploration will destroy our beaches? I am aware of none and these alarmists are hoping to scare others into blindly following their advice.

Again, attend a Marti Coley event. Listen to her broad agenda of making Florida a great place to do business, improving the performance of our schools, protecting military projects in our area, and limiting the size of state government. She has dedicated much of her life as an educator and is an admirable person.

Can you please link to evidence of her Texas oil lobby money? All I find at ballotpedia.org is her top 5 contributors:
FL Police Benevolent Assoc $2,000 21st Century Oncology $1,000 American Resort Development Assoc $1,000 FL Chamber of Commerce $1,000 FL Assoc of Insurance Agents $1,000

I do not see any red flags here....

Did you do any investigation to see if what you hear is true? Mr. Pleat has issued 3 press releases claiming that "Texas oil" has given money to the Coley campaign. I just spent 2 hours on google to find any evidence of this and outside of the Walton County Democrats and David Pleat's facebook page I am afraid any public evidence of this is nonexistant. It does not surprise me that a trial attorney would stretch the truth. If you want this kind of representation in Tallahasee then you will deserve the representation you are getting. It was good for me to learn more about who is supporting Mr. Pleat. I personally will be avoiding Florida Fish House and Harbor Docks Restaurant from now on seeing the company that its owner keeps. Kind of a bummer since the 2 for 1 early bird specials are so good. I never really liked Bud and Alley's anyway so avoiding it will not be as hard.

Marti Coley also claims to represent the rural communities and coastal counties. Oddly 75% of her contributions come from outside of her district. While some of those businesses are simply corporate offices, some are questionable. Why is she accepting contributions from a company like Phoenix University? We already have community colleges, state colleges, and universities in her district. All of those offer distance learning without the predatory lending practices that come with for profit colleges.

Can you help me a bit? How long does it take from the first weld to realization of refined fuel? Where would the rigs be fabricated? Where would the oil be refined? Where do the support boats sail from? Where are the taxes collected from all the above? How much $$/per barrel will be coming to Florida? How will this industry support Florida?

Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know.

Exactly SWGB and Lucifer Sam,

We need to be in the know when making these decisions and no piece of the puzzle is insignificant. Sometimes we know(inside), even what we don't know(factually), but it is still best to be as educated as possible so the best possible decision can be made.

Thanks guys:wub:

I have never met Miss Coley and she seems like a nice enough person, but in my opinion her inability to recognize a threat to the very economic engine that drives Florida is unforgivable. This isn't a liberal-conservative issue, Republican-Democrat issue, this is a common sense issue and she flunked the litmus test.

Ms. Coley has been an educator for years. Her Marianna district office is at Chipola Community College. I am quite sure that she is a big supporter of Chipola and is not on their payroll. Do you guys realize that a $500 contribution is small potatoes in an election and in no way shape or form will lead to a respectable person like Ms. Coley to vote for an item that is not in the best interest of her constituents.

BTW, Phoenix University has 16 campuses throughout Florida and Ms. Coley is on one of the House Education Committees. So I would not consider it a crime that she has received a small donation from them.

So doctor, would you prefer to have a trial attorney in the Florida House of Representatives to be against tort reform, loosen the criteria for expert witnesses, and remove the PIP payments to doctors first in automobile accidents. You are being a pawn in believing the rhetoric about our fine representative.

Were you guys so concerned about this in the 2008 presidential race??? This is reposted from the Washington Post, a pretty reputable source

The Democratic National Committee may be trying to get some mileage out of recent news about oil industry contributions to Republican Sen. John McCain, launching a web site spoofing the idea of McCain sharing his presidential ticket with Exxon. But they may have found an unwelcome surprise in a just-released analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics.
Turns out, the biggest recipient of contributions from Exxon executives and employees during this campaign is not McCain. It's Obama.
The non-partisan center writes: "Through June, Exxon employees have given Obama $42,100 to McCain's $35,166. Chevron favors Obama $35,157 to $28,500, and Obama edges out McCain with BP $16,046 vs. $11,500."
