Help! I need to replace some windows.

Any recomendations? I need to replace a couple windows on an older home in Miramar Beach. I think we need to replace the whole frame and window, not just the glass. Since I don't have a clue how to do it, I don't know if a good handyman could do the job or if I need a window specialist?

There may be a chance you can replace the sashes depending on the type of window.

If you need new windows there are a few places to get them and most will offer installation or have a list of subcontractors.

What type of windows are they? Double or single hung (up and down), casements (swing out), etc. - aluminum, wood, vinyl?

I've had good experiences with Destin Glass and Seagrove Glass (same company). They'll send someone out to look at it and give you a quote.

I'd say the windows are aluminum, single hung (up and down). One is a small bathroom window and the other is a larger bedroom window. The main problem is that the windows won't stay in their groove when opening and shutting.

The home is a weekly rental that my father-in-law owns. He had a renter try and open the bathroom window, and as they pushed the window up it slipped out of the groove and landed on their head. The renter is ok, but left a silver dollar sized hole in the glass that spider-webbed throughout the rest of the window. So we need to replace the glass, but also make sure it doesn't happen again.

John's suggestion is a good one. For aluminum windows they will look at them to see if sashes can be replaced but it is doubtful.

I have a better idea, call John Hall at Coastal Glass and Mirror, 865-1252, he'll do a better job than Seagrove. He used to work there, one reason he started his own business a couple of years ago!
