OK...my 6000th post and I have a few random, scattered thoughts about SoWal.
Janurary...Visit to Kurt & Toots, newly seperated and enjoying being alone, but missing something in my life. Toots introduces me to the board. I got home, in love with Kurt, Toots, Spidey and SoWal area
Once home, I visited the board and the rest is history. I have enjoyed every minute of posting and reading others posts. It has been a lifesaver for me. I was so accustomed to a constant round of parties, entertaining, going out, having people over, cooking for 10-20 friends, being the center of attention ( I am talking 15 years of this) Stepping away from my marriage and that way of life was a conscious decision, and I loved loved loved being on my own! I was so tired of that life, and SoWal has shown me a better way of life, non judgemental, loving, caring and diverse! I love the diversity of this board! Everyone on here brings so much to this "place" and we are all true friends...in a most unconventional way (but not so much as it used to be...the internet is the meeting place of the future!) I do not feel pathetic that I come home from work and immideatly turn on SoWal. It is much better than watching TV, going out bar hopping or sitting alone. I know that my life is in hiatius (I know, I am a terrible speller... ) And I am in transition, but SoWal and all you wonderful people, have helped to guide me through this time of my life. On this board, we are able to "meet" and talk as friends, without distractions, and without the fear of having to be perfect. Everyone on here can be themselves and we care about them. Unfortunately, some that have been on here do not understand that to survive on this board, you can not take yourself too seriously, and you can not expect others to take you too seriously either. There is nothing wrong with this. It is human nature, but this board is such an eclectic group of people! that we exemplify this concept. I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you, I feel very fortunate to have been included in this group. And the power of this board was truly felt in the past few months with the all night smoking, drinking, cussing night, the soiree and all the get togethers while Sueshore has been there in SoWal. Kurt has created a wonderful enviornment here, and I am thankful to him and applaud his vision.
All this being said...I also want to thank you all for truly helping me adjust to a new way of life. It is one that I have craved for many years, and you have helped me from being lonely....you have indeed helped me "transition"...and continue to do so! I also love the fact that you all know ME as the person I am and not the person I was.

That was the best 6,000 post I have ever read. In fact, Afunn, you have written a piece for posterity. Who knew this would happen to us? I would love Kurt to tell us his vision and if it has been exceeded. My guess is that it has.

Thanks for all you bring to sowal.com, Afunn!

Alli I too feel the same way that you feel. Being a mom at home it gives me a chance to be with others without having to go anywhere. I have met some WONDERFUL people and life long friends. Yes there is diversity on this board but that is what makes the world go around. Could you imagine if we all liked vanilla...???

Some days I do not want to 'talk' and just 'listen' to the conversations. others I just chime in.

Congrats on your 6000 post!!!! I  you!!!!

Allifunn, your essay is very touching. I know you wrote it as much for yourself as for us, and I'm glad you shared it. You have a generous heart. And you're such a free spirit, you madcap posting maniac!

You mentioned that your spelling was bad but one would never notice. You put your feelings on your sleeve for all to see and it was very well recieved. What a wonderful distraction to all of the ugliness in the world today.

 Allifunn first congrats on the 6000 posts. I understand exactly how you feel about this place and these people. When Daddy was so ill and then as he passed Sowallers made such a difference. All my other friends were supportive and wonderful, so I wasn't alone. But the people here reaching out to me, remembering me and making me laugh helped more than I can say. To spend this much time daily with someone makes you feel connected to them. Kurt likely didn't know what he was doing for people when he started this board. But isn't it wonderful?

 My rolling eyes are in admiration of your very insightful 6000th post. You have have made me laugh at times when I didn't feel like I had anything to laugh about. Through your posts I have gotten to travel with you and watch you experience life through different eyes. You are one of the most funn accepting people I have ever met, and never thought I would meet on the internet. Had it not been for you and many others, I would have just logged into this wonderful site that keeps me in touch with my other "hood" (Mermy has me using that phrase now  ) and would have stayed out of lounging.
I heart you and look forward to wenching it with you throught the next 6000K and more!

allifunn:

number one: your avatar suits your wonderful speech.

number two: if your life is in Hiatus, then I am a BF zombie. you have never even paused, much less stopped, living your life! you may be doing it differently, but that is what you have wanted for so long, and you are doing it NOW. right now.

number three: kurt's vision did not quite envision a friggin army of lounge lizards who then all meet, become personal friends and start having real lives together outside of the board. I think it has exceeded his and all of our expectations! The Lounge Rules!!! who cares about local information and history and travel tips??? JK.
number three: congratulations you posting fiend!!! :clap_1: :D
