Saw two this morning!! Rare for me since I can't usually see 6 feet in front of me! But, I have a wind chime and they came right up to the window to investigate. Immediately went out and bought feeder and food.

Cool. My daughter said she saw one out our kitchen window the other day. I've only seen that weird hummingbird moth from a couple weeks ago.

While walking Maggie the other night at dusk, I could swear I saw a bat, but then again, with my eyesight, it coulda just been one of those moths!

Come to KY, DD! We have LOTS of bats. Every night at dusk- I love them 'cause they eat the skeeters! We sit on the deck and watch them crazy fly! ANd hope their sonar is working so they don't run into us.

There was a great article in last week's Dallas paper about bats in the hill country (around Austin). I think we may plan a trip down in late Sept. There are several million that fly every night and then return in the early morning at several areas down there. I like 'em too--can't eat too many skeeters for me!!

Mr. Mango and I sat at the lake last night at sunset, and there were a ton of bats swimmig around the lake. I never saw that many in one place. I used to have a family that lived under my shingles, and I could hear them squeek sometimes during the day. The only thing I didn't like was cleaning the bat turds :funn:
I read somewhere that sone hummingbirds migrate the furthest than any other bird. Also, DD, if you put a feeder, they will come back next year to it. They remember. I don't use feeders because they attracted too many ants.
I use red flowers since they like those. If you use a feeder, I read that putting oil on the string or pole helps, but I can't recall.

Our hummingbird population has declined dramatically over the past years, along with the monarchs and other butterfly species. I suspect that our city's continued mosquito spray campaign is to blame. Twice in the past three years I found dead hummingbirds in my front yard.

Oh, I hate that. I love hummingbirds. Both my feeders stay empty as I do not know how many birds hit them though. Last year I was seeing 4 at a time and one hummingbird would perch on a limb and guard the feeder and anytime any other hummingbirds would try to drink from it that one bird would swoop down and run them off. This year I have two out, one way around the house hanging on my front porch and the one on the side porch. That way the hummers cannot guard both.margarita brocolia
DD,
I've got baby Turk's Caps you can have. Hummingbirds love it. If you're not familiar, the plant gets big, 4 to 5 feet around here, will tolerate sun to shade, and has red flowers that look like an unopened hibiscus bloom. If you've got these flowers in your yard, you'll get hummungbirds! They love them.
Let me know if you want any.
Are you getting rain? We're getting sprinkles and the temp dropped 20 degrees! :clap_1:

Rita, you're such a doll! I have tons of Turk's Cap in the back yard. Just thought I'd give them a little added incentive to hang around with the feeder. It's blooming like crazy now--would do even better with some rain! Just had sprinkles here and one big boom of thunder. Temps did drop some. mr. dd said we had a micro burst--

it's odd huh? I don't have that problem, cause I'm the only one in my department. glad I don't have people reporting to me--I've got enough issues of my own!

We have trumpet vine at our Denver house, and yes, the hummers liked it, and yes, it is aggressive--we had tendrils of it coming up in our basement!
When I saw this thread title I thought it was about SUVs.;-)
We have bats here at Port St Joe and I am always happy to see them flitting about--dragonflies as well. The mosquitos are not that bad where we are and I like to think it's because of the bats and dragonflies.
