Have you been attending the KY Derby Festival events? Are you going to the track this week? I'm a wee bit homesick this week- for the first time! I even bought red roses at Publix yesterday!

Well the mini marathon was this weekend, some really fast guy won. The balloon race went off as expected and they went east. They were looking for you evidently. I believe they landed around Blankenbaker. Lots of excitement.

Not going to Derby, have a party instead, but I am planning on heading to the track for Oaks. Got the cute little dress (black and white) and a hat in case it does rain since umbrellas are a no no. I'll work a bit that morning and head out to hang with the rich and famous. The queen is making an appearance this year. I'll wait until she picks her horse before I bet. I hear she knows a thing or two about horses. However the buzz is Scat Daddy. Prado is the riding him and he was on Barbaro last year. I'll keep ya posted.

I have always heard that it wasn't so much the horse as the jockey, because the top jockies are always riding the top horses. Sounds like you are reinforcing this theory.

I know very little about race horses when it's time to pick a winner. I agree with the logic of betting the jockey. But it hasn't always worked for me. When Pat Day was riding I always bet him, and yet I'm not rich.

But I do think Prado is an amazing jockey and he spends a great deal of time looking for the best horse. He's already looking at a horse in Lexington for the 2010 Derby. He's the little guy in my tar, Barbaros full blooded brother. Prado says if you believe in reincarnation this is the horse. So watch for him in 3 years.

Right now the other names you are hearing are Hard Spun, Sam P, Curlin and Dominican. My friends family is part owner of Teuflesberg they are pretty excited to have a horse in the Derby.

Figures doesn't it. I miss being downtown. When I worked down there it was so much funn to do lunch in the middle of all the stuff. Besides you got off early for the parade and the steamboat race. Ahh the good ol days. I hope the rain stays away this weekend. If not, I'm changing parties in mid stream and will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday. Instead of mint juleps, I'll drink margaritas. I'll have one for you either way. That's what friends do.

I'll be at Mayhem, but I will try to find a Mexican midget to bring to Mayhem, in honor of Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby.

My friend always bets the grays. She actually does know how to handicap and usually picks a winner. She can't lay off the gray horse though. I win more money when I pull a horse from a $2 pot than I ever have from a single bet.

Hey - what's that little brother's name? I'd like to keep an eye on him. We'll be doing our traditional Derby Day crawfish boil. Lot's of talk about Street Sense. I love the looks of Curlin. Reminds me of Secretariat  a little. Oh the great Secretariat! Will there ever be another? I still get goose bumps when I watch the replay of that Derby. I actually had a private tour of Claiborne Farms a few years ago. It was so amazing. The countryside is breathtaking!

Secretariat was wonderful. He's jdargs fav too I think.

Barbaro has a half brother, Man of Havana that is with Matz now. He's the closest to racing of the 3. He has two full blooded brothers. The first, Nicanor is a yearling. The baby was born in April. He's still unnamed and running around the farm with mom in Lexington, isn't he beautful. He's the one Prado wants to ride in 2010.

You saw one of the best farms, Scooter. The owners are great people and good horse owners.

Guess I will take a lil' Mayhem break and watch the race!!

Thankfully the Queen of England is supposed to attend, so maybe she will upstage some of the trash that have been billed as "celebrities" the last few years!

Did someone say Larry Birkhead and DannieLynn? Some of you have probably seen this, but if not... enjoy. (I hope it works  )

News/scoop today is that 2 horses scratched/withdrew from the race and Teuflesberg is in. He's a sentimental choice because he has local owners and his trainer is making her 1st appearance in the Derby. She grew up wanting a horse in the race after seeing Secretariat and is one of the few women to reach the level she has. May have to bet on him too, I like the long shots.

Other than that I still hear people talking about Curlin, Street Sense, Hard Spun and Scat Daddy. I know little, but listen alot. They'll pick the post postions today and it's also the day for the Great Steamboat Race. Mermy could beat these mammoths in the water in her kayak. It's not too exciting (unless Mermy shows up) but is a lovely reason to get off work early.

I'm still going with Curlin. Hope he's not the favorite by Saturday (bad luck in the Derby). Never know in the Derby. Just want another triple crown winner. It's been toooooooo long. Affirmed - 1978. Maybe next year will be the charm (30 years). Hope I'll be there!!!!!

OK- just did a quick check of the celebs that attended the biggest Derby Eve bash in Louisville last night. What a hoot- K-fed, Dannilynn's baby daddy, Gene Simmons, Joey Fatone, Nick Lachey- Kid Rock is a perennial and wore his usual classy white wifebeater shirt. Brittany Murphy asctually looked like a celebrity. I can't believe people actually pay money to go to a party with this group!!:floor:

Oh well, at least we have the Queen at the track today. Despite your feelings on the Queen, at least we don't have to discuss the baby daddy of her children, she dresses appropriately, she won't be stinking drunk and showing her boobs, and the men in her party won't be dressed like pimps, which seems to be the current fashion in menswear. Ah, civility.
