UGH My poor son took his youth department to church camp somewhere down there this weekend (between Jackson and Millington) No air conditioning and no fans. Stay cool everyone.

Our church youth group does a spring trip every year to Chickasaw State Park in Henderson. It is on Hwy 100. That is going towards Jackson, Tennessee. There are a few state parks up that way beyond Millington. My husband and I just live about 10 minutes south of Millington. Chickasaw State Park has air conditioning in all cabins. They have group lodges also. Not sure about them but I think they would be air conditioned also. Yep, the lodges have air. Would be interested in knowing where they went. We are going to Chickasaw State Park the end of August and staying in a cabin for 3 nights. You can go horseback riding, rent rowboats and dreamboats on Lake Placid, they have a nice restaurant also. This is a link to Chickasaw, it is 18 miles south of Jackson, Tn.

Group Lodge
This facility accommodates 40 persons. The building features divided quarters with bunk beds and sleeps 20 people to a room. Central heat and air are provided as well as dishes, utensils, microwave, ice maker, freezers, refrigerator and stove. Groups must supply their own linens.

That sounds nicer than where Drew is. Maybe next year they can go there. We just moved him down there last weekend so he didn't plan this trip. But next year will be different so I'll save the link for him. You live close to him. He goes to school in Memphis and church in Millington. Nice and hot down there that's for sure.

Every now and then, there are times (heresy follows) that I wish I was in Memphis instead of SoWal. But this week isn't one of them.

TreeFrog, you need to make a return visit sometime. But yeah, now isn't a good time. It has been unbelievably hot and humid. Feels like a sauna when stepping outside, even first thing in the morning! Cannot wait until fall and cooler temps!

:( Well, according to weather.com, it is showing 87 right now at PC Beach and Destin and is 98 here. The panhandle has the gulf breezes that keep it cooler. We are not that lucky. And according to wunderground, PC Beach is showing from 89 to 91 for the next 5 days. I'd love to see those temps!

I hear you about the 98 degrees in Memphis, but just be glad that you are not in parts of Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas where temps are around 108F.

 I am glad I am not in parts of Texas and Oklahoma, imagine those girls playing that softball in that over 100 degree temps. Those Chinese and Japanese teams are not used to those temperatures. We officially hit 100 today. Whew!

like I said on another thread--I'm not complaining. Its hot here in Memphis, but its hot everywhere. One advantage--daughter's boyfriend came to visit this week, so we went to Graceland yesterday--the crowds were significantly less than I expected. Even Elvis fans can't take the heat! But heat or not --I love Memphis. I do wish we were in Sowal--but the move here this summer probably keeps us from going this year. sigh.....

I'm with you Audie. I feel like your tar in this heat. I run from the house to the car and right back in. Even my pool feels like bath water, so I stay in the a/c. I prefer fall and spring. I figure in the winter if it's cold I'll put on a cute sweater. There's only so much you can take off in the summer; even then you're still hot and people tend to stare

I may be one of the rare few who say, bring on the heat. It is good for the soul. However, if I had to wear a suit and tie, I might be miserable. Thank God for Birkenstocks and shorts.

I know when I'm in Sowal I never mind the heat. Maybe it's the attire and the ocean breeze :D I do hate the panty hose thing in this heat.

Amen Brotha! Audie, I am in strong disagreeance with you regarding snow. ;-)

I love hot weather!! I love to feel the sun on my back, I love how I can sit outside at night and not have to wear a jacket, actually I don't mind sweating either. I can always get cool by going inside but in the winter it seems I can never get really warm. Next time you think about how hot it is- think back to that cold, windy, icy rain hitting you in the face that feels like little needles. Brrrrrrrrr
