I blew Confucius
A new Chinese restaurant, Beach Wok Cafe, opened its doors in south Walton earlier this year.
"There was a time in the not so distant past, when you had to make a road trip to either Fort Walton Beach or Panama City to get some Thai, Chinese, or Mexican food.", said local Bill Stanford, "It is great that we are getting a lot more ethnic restaurants in the area."
Everyone agrees that an increase in ethnic diversity, both in terms of eateries and population, is a welcome thing for south Walton.
But, the influx of foreigners into what has traditionally been an english speaking, Caucasian area has caused one unexpected problem.
Brett McIntyre of Santa Rosa Beach?s experience exemplifies the problem."I had a tattoo placed on my shoulder, it was supposed to say ?Strength? in Chinese characters. I walked into the Beach Wok Caf? and the entire staff began to laugh and point at my tattoo. I asked what was so funny and they said it read ?I blew Confucius?. I was horrified."
The Chinese staff has reported seeing tattoos that said everything from ?Small Wee-Wee?, to ?Doggy-Poo Breath?.
It seems that what with the lack of Chinese speakers in the area for so long, local tattoo parlors were simply guessing at the meaning of the tattoos they were putting on customers. It is estimated that 50% of all south Walton surfers, skate punks, and Realtors have a Chinese symbol tattooed somewhere on their body; most probably saying something other than what their owners intended.
"I don?t shower at the gym anymore",said McIntyre, "I?m terrified to know what the Aztec symbol on my ass really means."

"Guy come in the other day with tattoo that say- Fart Sniffer....haha, I laugh.", Li Chang, owner Beach Wok Cafe.
...that's an eggroll!
