Last night's sunset was glorious, all golds and pinks and streaks of robin's egg blue.
I was looking at it as we drove 30-A here and saw a green flash. Years and years ago on our honeymoon in Jamaica and the Caymans I'd stare at the sunsets every night, probably burning holes in my retinas, and never seeing anything other than a beautiful sunset. The last thing on my mind last night was the green flash, but I definitely saw it. It was very cool.
Anyone else ever seen it?

Cil, I have seen the green flash once. We went with friends on the Nathaniel sailboat for a sunset cruise this fall and I saw it ! It was beautiful and very quick! So cool!
Yay, another flasher! ;-)
It is indeed quick, I can see why people might doubt themselves (or others.)

I saw my first shooting stars at Grayton- sitting on the porch of the house next door to Kimmi's family's house. Scared me to death at first! The shooting stars were green and red- not what I thought they were supposed to look like, but everyone else there confirmed it. They were beautiful- way out over the Gulf. Maybe I will see my first green flash down there!!

Wow, I've never seen or heard of the green flash!
I was at Watercolor Publix and my little boy and I were standing in the parking lot admiring the red red red sunset in the southwest sky. Lj said it was a fire in the sky. we didn't get to see it from the beach, but it was still awesome!!!
cil - thanks for info on green flash - I'll be watching out!

I was so hoping to catch the green flash when Merman and I were at the beach Christmas week. Wouldn't that have been a perfect way to end the year? Alas, no flash for us but I'm delighted to know you saw one, Cil. They're so rare. Lucky you!

My husband and I saw it twice in January of '02 at Seacrest Beach. We had our hot toddies and bundled up as that year it was quite chilly in SoWal. It was an awesome sight!

Aye, Lassie!!!!!!!! The Cap'n has seen the Green Flash many times. I guess the more sunsets one sees at the seashore, or at sea, the more chances one has to see it. The most fun sunsets to watch are those while flying into to sunset on maritime patrol (by the way...the sunrises are even cooler!!)
Yesterday's sunset in SoWal was spectacular (as the SJ pictures prove). It was the coolest red I've ever seen. We were having a drink at the Watercolor Inn, and everyone in the place got up and went outside to gaze in amazement. We are so lucky!!!!

There was a green flash on the sunset evening of October 22, the same night that Hurricane Wilma was churning westward toward the Yucatan, but to the far south of us. SJ was taking photos that night, too. Did you catch it? 😀

That's too bad, Mermaid. Your time will come. I've seen lots of shooting stars in the mountains of Colorado.
The Perseid meteor shower is always good. Isn't that in March?
Recently when I was out on the beach for a *very* early morning walk with the dogs, I saw a huge shooting star right next to the moon. It was like something out of a Disney cartoon. 🙂

if you don't look for it, then you might just see it - and only if you are under a broken cloud layer and don't look directly at the sun - saw my first one in the Beach Party (now Schooner's) in PCB guzzling a cold one and chowing down on those famous red beans and rice served on toasted french bread, waiting for the silly little cannon to go off - everybody whooped and hollered! Been years since i've even thought about it - nice job Cil!
