I know for sure if you wear loafers without socks and jump when you dance.

Ewwwww..... I don't like wearing shoes without socks unless they are sandals and its been a looooong while since I have been dancing! lol ;-) We do live on the same lake though, so if you want to meet up for coffee or go fishing sometime that would be awesome SWGB... :D

Okay, thought you were somebody from OFFH based on your profile pic. Got it wrong, but coffee would be a fun one day.

:wave: sowal friends are so cool. when you finally do meet in person, you can't help but call them by their sowal board name. and then you introduce them to other friends using the board name and real name (if you can recall it).

I think I know Douglas, too. And, his stage name would be an interesting introduction like many here.

Hi DTI!!

Awwww...Thanks guys. Not skeery huh DD?! lol! You obviously have never heard me singing in the shower... ;-)

SWGB, even though I live right next to OFFH, I haven't been there in a long time. I am a slow learner, so it took quite a few bad meals for me to figure out my dining dollars were way better spent elsewhere on 30a!

This is so funny, and so true! I have had to ask for a reminder of a sowaller's "real" name on more than one occasion.

yep. even on FB I have to call my buds by their sowal names. other folks have no clue what it means I'm sure.

I definitely ask "who?" a lot when real names are used.

I should have used my family nickname of Lala instead of Gidget. I never knew where this was all going when I signed on!!! But Gidget is fun too!

In fact, I've often wondered HOW names are picked! I picked mine because I was always told - when I was younger - that I looked like Sandra Dee (WAY back when!) And I loved her surfing movies! She was Gidget before Sally Field but LOL I've been told WAY back that I looked like her too!

So perhaps this is the start of a new thread....

How did you all come to decide on your profile names? (except for Susan Horn, Chandra, Buz LIvingston, and the other people using their REAL names! :D )

I use an altered version of my real name:

Kit is my first name, and Little is my maiden name. KitLit.

A scooterbug is Mama Scooterbug's name for a cute baby/little kid scooting around as they learn to crawl/walk or a bug that skates across the surface of the water.

I was a great lil' crawler and then grew into a gangly kid who swam the breaststroke as one of my events.................the nickname got brought back in high school when she accidentally asked a teammate "which lane is my little scooterbug in?".

Tootsie. its a family nickname I was raised with (thanks to dear old grandaddy). I did not like the name when I was a teen and refused to answer to it. I grew to appreciate it and welcomed it back later on. now, I'm called Tootsie by nearly everyone except Dad who calls me Mary (my first name - no one else ever uses it except the doctor or someone reading from a chart). so its mary teresa elizabeth tootsie... (elizabeth = confirmation name).

If I could change my board name it would be: Mary Tootsie (or sister mary tootsie) (another nickname given by a few good friends). SMT.

calling me Sister anything is so funny, but I've always been called either Sister or Mother whatever...

When I joined SoWal in 2006, I was working at the Walton Sun,

expecting my first baby. and...

"She packed up her bags, and she took off down the road"

pretty much sums up my life (at least 'til I moved here)

somehow I missed the evolution of this thread, how fun! I love reading about how folks came up with their sowal monikers...

WaterCourseWay is from a book called Tao: The Watercourse Way by Alan Watts. It is a beautifully written and profound little book that combines a study of the heart of Taoist philosophy with an exploration of the artistry, history, and symbolic beauty of the Chinese language. Alan Watts is known for his eloquent translations and interpretations of Eastern literature and thought, and it was his final book. One of my all-time faves.

I loved the beautiful and globally rare coastal dune lakes of South Walton before we knew they were "coastal dune lakes." Hi DTI. We should meet in the middle of the lake one day.

It's the reason why I joined. Sorry, no family symbolism, no fun story. I was just curious one day, and here I am.
