Tootsie. its a family nickname I was raised with (thanks to dear old grandaddy). I did not like the name when I was a teen and refused to answer to it. I grew to appreciate it and welcomed it back later on. now, I'm called Tootsie by nearly everyone except Dad who calls me Mary (my first name - no one else ever uses it except the doctor or someone reading from a chart). so its mary teresa elizabeth tootsie... (elizabeth = confirmation name).

If I could change my board name it would be: Mary Tootsie (or sister mary tootsie) (another nickname given by a few good friends). SMT.

SISTER Mary Tootsie... perfect! adore it!!

Dune-ahh is the beachy sand dune version of Doona... also a hated childhood twist on Donna that my sibs taunted me with.
As in: "Doona-Doona-smells-like-tuna". As a little girl it ENRAGED me. You can imagine all the "DOOOO NOTTTT! DOOO TOOO"! Of course my sibs & cousins would laugh uproariously at their success in always ruffling my feathers with their teasing. Later on my oldest niece picked up on her Mother and Uncles memories of our childhood teasing tortures and started calling me Aunty Doon. Our family also humms and ahhhs when we hug each other (thus the -ahh).

At some point in life you just surrender, move to the beach, and embrace all those childhood horrors!!
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em and all that existential jazz.

Kish is a shortening of my last name and 7374 are two great years for me.

somehow I missed the evolution of this thread, how fun! I love reading about how folks came up with their sowal monikers...

WaterCourseWay is from a book called Tao: The Watercourse Way by Alan Watts. It is a beautifully written and profound little book that combines a study of the heart of Taoist philosophy with an exploration of the artistry, history, and symbolic beauty of the Chinese language. Alan Watts is known for his eloquent translations and interpretations of Eastern literature and thought, and it was his final book. One of my all-time faves.

oh thanks for reviving this thread! more board name explanations please - I love 'em!

WCW - I had absolutely NO idea whatsoever what the hail your board name meant. and now I must get the book - it sounds wonderful.

It's kind of fun since it weeds out the sock puppets over in the politics thread if they just registered, but happen to also know what my old screen name was.

I loved the beautiful and globally rare coastal dune lakes of South Walton before we knew they were "coastal dune lakes." Hi DTI. We should meet in the middle of the lake one day.

That would be awesome DuneLaker! I am actually taking my project boat out on the lake for the first time this weekend to see if it floats! Wish me luck! If it takes on too much water, it looks like its going up for sale el pronto. lol

As for my sowal name, my first name is Douglas and I attempt to be fairly intrepid in this great adventure we are embarked on. ;-)
