I always take prescription sleep meds when I travel.
I tried Ambien.
Once.
That stuff made me feel asleep when I was awake, and awake when I was asleep.
Turns out I was not alone.
Sleepwalking with Ambien
I also have heard that Ambien is associated with getting the munchies.
I dunno, I get the munchies with or without prescription meds. ;-)

How soon can you get yourself to my house? I can't see my ironing board for all the Merman clothing that's on top of it.

This is off the subject, but the starch in the whitey reminded me. Years ago I worked with this gal in Destin who had been married to an unfaithful husband. Once she found out she began washing hubbies underwear with fiber glass. 😱 Well the itching became so intense he went to the doctor. The doctor never did figure out the problem. She would stop after the doctor prescribed an ointment of some sort and then start back a few days later. This continued while she planned her divorce from the sob! Not condoning just repeating. And you know what they say "I don't repeat gossip so listen carefully!!

:clap_1: ...OMG, his coworkers used to ask me if I did this all the time!!!! He is VERY professional. Just like me!!!
I started this because of it being in the news....people driving and eating while sleepwalking on Ambien. I can just imagine people trying to use this as an excuse for DUI's, extramarital affairs and dancing on bars!!!!

I always take prescription sleep meds when I travel. Some medications have an opposite effect on some people. I too, recall taking a medication once, which was supposed to make me drousy. Instead, I was extremely alert and awake.
I tried Ambien.

Ambien does have warnings on the label infoming you of possible sleepwalking, lapse of memory from being half asleep while still functionably awake, etc. ;-)

It just agitates me, maybe I'll take up bar-room dancing too.

I know of someone that took Ambien on an overseas flight. The only problem was that she took it before she went to the bathroom. You guessed it - that is where she fell asleep.

From an ex-pharmacist's old memory: Ambien is rapidly absorbed (about 30 minutes and has a very short half-life (when half of drug is removed ) which is about 1.5-4 hours and no active metabolites. The half life can be doubled in the elderly due to compromised elimination so hangover should be minimal in younger people but very possible in the elderly. With such a short half life, its possible to wake up a few hours into the night because it's removed so quickly. Lots of things can effect absorption and elimination rates so every drug responds differently in every person but with a good sleep, many people do feel energized when they awake.
Sleepwalking is pretty common and very real so I don't doubt someone could get in a car while under the influence. I know an elderly lady that went across the street to a neighbors house confused at about 3:30AM. Everyone thought she was getting senile but when the drug was stopped, she didn't have any more instances. Bottom line is that any drug can have very different effects on different people and underlying drug use (even by prescription) should always be the first thing considered when any type of untoward effects or unusual activity is occurring. 😀

We took Ambien for the first time on a flight to New Zealand. Our doc said it was fast acting and had a rapid absorption, so to take it after the meal service (and a bathroom visit), expect to go to sleep almost instantly and to become wide awake in no more than four hours. Bingo! Worked perfectly for us because we had time to refresh before the breakfast and landing. It is a dreamless sleep. We just felt like we closed our eyes and awakened almost instantly, but totally refreshed. No aftereffects later that day, either.
I had some sleepwalking episodes as a teenager and young adult, but nothing with Ambien. Once sleepwalked down the floating staircase of my Atlanta apartment au natural, to the utter astonishment of my roommate and her date, who were having a nightcap in the living room...but that's another story.

Donna, the stories you hear in the Lounge! Just when you think you've heard it all... :funn:
I'm jealous that Ambien makes you fall asleep on airplanes. That's what I originally got mine for, that I'd awake at my destination feeling refreshed. I've come to the conclusion that no matter what drugs I take, if I'm not sleeping horizontal, I'm not sleeping. :( It's great stuff, though, when you're in unfamiliar places and the nighttime noises and routines aren't what you're used to. I take it while I'm travelling, not while I'm getting to where I'm travelling!
