The oil spill which has in the Gulf Coast area of the United States will take effort to clean up . As the US is primarily the first country to lend a hand in a time of need, many are wondering who will step up to the plate and offer us help in our times of sorrow.

An Iranian state firm that has several oil drilling specialists have offered their assistance to the efforts in the Gulf of Mexico. Despite the tensions between the two countries, the Drilling Company wants to help avert an “ecological disaster.”
Haidar Bahmani, managing director of the National Iranian Drilling Company, said his firm was ready to provide assistance in fighting the spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Oil Ministry’s website SHANA reported.

The specialists are among the best in the world, capable of controlling even the most complex spills. Given that Iran is one of the world’s largest oil producers, this makes sense.

There’s a debate over whether or not the US should take Iran on their offer. On one hand, we share the same world. The oil spill is devastating and we can take all the help we can get. We have some 210,000 gallons of crude oil pumping into the ocean and creating quite the environmental hazard.
On the other hand, Iran has been a very vocal enemy of the United States. Some people worry about any ulterior motives that may exist.
What do you think? Should the two countries put their differences aside, or should the US pass on the offer.

IMO we should take any expert advice and help we can get.

As for ulterior motives, one never knows, but I would think their agenda would be more likely that they want to ensure that Iran's oil based economy is not hurt by the GLOBAL effects of this spill.

Making the problem worse hurts them on many levels.

Making it better helps them as well as us.

If it's a pure humanitary offer, I don't see why not. Just don't let too many cooks into the kitchen!

I love when an issue comes along and I seriously can't decide which way I lean.

Crisis brings out the best and worst in people. One can mend fences or see true colors.

I say give 'em the thumbs up, be humble and see what comes of it.

The high irony is that the Iranian engineers probably studied their craft in the USA!

Yep, at Manhattanville College probably. I have many friends that studied engineering there and a large majority of the student population in that study were from the Middle East. Although, they do pump more oil than we do and probably have more experience with issues in containment, so I can't see the harm in having more brain input on this.

I suppose one could figure what would be the worst possible scenario if they helped. Then, based on the list of liabilities, whether or not there were solutions to the obstacles, then decide yea or nay. This oil thing is like having a baby. I feel like I've been up night after night, taking care of the baby. No sleep momzilla going to bite head off big black greasy monster creeping up on baby beach.

Personally, I would say NO to Iran without further consideration, relationships are based on trust. I think the Hayboys got it going on, they care about our community. I would always be wondering what Iran's motive was and wonder what they were really doing here "helping". Definite no on that one. Trojan horse comes to mind.

If Saudi Arabia or any of the other big Middle East oil producers want to send over their experts, I say bring them on. Iran on the other hand is ruled by nuts who are trying really hard to get a nuclear bomb (and getting close by some accounts) and oh by the way want to blow Israel to smithereens the first chance they get. Inmo, if they want to come over here to "help", it is really only to spy in some way, maybe even sabotage, or most likely use our oil spill against us in some propoganda (which they're famous for).
