Is either party doomed?

Each side keeps saying this, but is it actually true? Walton County is quite the microcosm, but we essentially have a one party system and it doesn't seem to be working. There are other parties, but none are actually viable alternatives if you wanted to actually get someone elected.

If one is doomed should those doomed be ready to choose a new party? Here's a list of political parties in Florida:

Political Parties - Florida Division of Elections - Department of State

The number of folks on here that identify as Republican and are in fact Whigs is pretty interesting.

Whigs? You are going to have to explain that one because I thought they died in the 1850's and BECAME the Republican party.

What we need is a party that is hijacked by a bunch of rabid, knee-jerk moderates.:D

They still exist, there's even a website through the link I posted.

Regardless of political affiliation, we need representatives that listen and vote the will of their constituents. Hence the word representative. Anyone who doesn't needs their butt kicked to the curb.

I've been seeing material posted about the "Coffee Party" that's sprung up in some areas. However haven't seen any evidence of it locally. I guess it isn't a real political party despite the name.

With due respect Andrew. I agree with your comment about "representatives that listen and vote the will of their constituents". In facts, I've heard that same line for the past 50 years. Just what makes you believe that a new party will make that happen.

Talk is cheap and politicians are politicians regardless of the party title. Sure, there are a few that actually do as you have stated, but very few on either side of the isle.... IMO, once they make it to D.C. they have a short memory of their promises to their constituents.

I have a name I think is really cool but the problem is it's already a derogatory (sort of) term referring to people of Mexican descent.

Reminds me of a song in one of the Cheech and Chong movies.

I remember this sketch:

Cheech:You sold me that chit, couldn't even get a fly high. I brought it home gave it to my brothers and sisters, turned out to be nothing but oregano.

Chong: Well if it's oregano ya b----r, you can use it in your soup!

Arkiehawg,

I've never been a big fan of having a political banner. I vote on the candidate not for the party. I was one of those that voted for Perot. Yeah I knew he wasn't going to win but he earned my vote.

Clinton turned out to be a great President. I tend to favor candidates that are fiscally responsible. I don't want my kids inheriting problems we created or didn't solve. It's basically the same mantra of global warming supporters.
