I won't go into it, but there is always a little stink brewing about the ownership of the beach. Typically in WalCo, the Gulf Front owners own to the high water mark, and other people are not supposed to stop and set up shop, so to speak, on that beach.  However, the public has  a right to walk on the beach, signs or no signs. ;-)

So, this is nothing surprising to see.

Not surprising to me either.  There is house next to the Seamist condo complex where my mom and dad own, and the owner of that house is a very successful lawyer.  He runs folks off all of the time, and when we were having our beaches renourished, he refused to have any sand piled on his property, claiming that he will do it on his own.  Now, there is a 30ft stretch that has not been renourished  :funn: , and no dune walkover.  He uses our's.

Bsmart brings up a good point. Supposedly a battle has been brewing about the beach nourishment program in WalCo, and that by accepting the nourishment on the private property, the County or State (I am not sure which), ie- the public, will have rights to the property which is nourished by the TDC.

It would appear that ownership to the "high water mark" is a fuzzy concept.  I.e., when do you measure high water?

And beyond renourishment, that concept of ownership would also seem to be at odds with dune conservation projects, too.  "Keep off the dunes" signs, seeding for sea oats, etc. would all be inland of "typical" high water, if high water means typical high tide, not a storm.

I assume the county-maintained walkovers are on easements.

Such a beautiful public beach access at Stallworth-it's a shame they have to erect such a pompous sign to remind the visitors that we don't own the beach-they do.
