jargon alert: scent marketing

Scent Marketing - A subgenre of "sendsory branding", It's using smell to attract customers. Omni Hotels, for instance, uses green tea and lemon grass scents.
- from Wired Magazine

This is relevant to anyone with a rental or a property for sale. A Glade plug in would work but some of those are awful, think more upscale. I personally don't like perfumed people or houses but a subtle scent is nice. Although a plug in would help the house I shot recently that smelled like poop.

treasure island and the mirage always had a scent of what reminded me of suntan oil - very nice ! the last time we were at the venetian they were piping their fragrance out (for sale in the gift shops of course) and it was godawful. i got to sneezing so bad we had to leave.

Well they say to bake cookies when selling a home, and that the smell of cinnamon psychologically attracts men to a certain house, so why not scent branding.
It would be pretty cool if you when you logged on sowal.com if you could smell coconut suntan lotion, margaritas, or the salt air from the surf. :D

May I suggest that the Chevron off of hwy 331 in Florala, Ala. use a different scent to market their Men's restroom.

I do when I go to my happy place looking at the beach cam and your photos, but if we're lucky at the rate Joshy's thread says technology is exploding exponentially, we should have scratch and sniff monitors in no time.
(of course if we can read the chinese directions while wearing a sari  ) Cheering, you are too much.

reed diffuser... a safe way to provide long lasting, subtle and wonderful scent to a home. I think this would work very well in a rental unit or audie's house... :D

We have one in Bridge Lane and have given several as gifts. They are everywhere. I got ours at the Rosemary Beach store (ask for the most popular fragrance..something tea?) and westelm.com. Around $20 and very long lasting. You can buy more of the scented oil. Subtle, but effective.

I saw them at my fave "scent" store, Patchouli's at Gulf Place, but they are horribly expensive there! I heard you can get them at Pier One, Steinmart and other places. the oils may not be as high quality in the cheaper ones, but I'm sure they are just fine. they were wonderful, subtle (not perfumey) and slowly release scent throughout the house.

I just have to share this story about my favorite home fragrance -- Anthausa Cucumber and Green Grass. Five weeks after Katrina hit, we were finally allowed back into the city. We get to our home to discover that we'd had a good bit of water, the contents of the refrigerator had liquified, the place was full of fly larvae (did you know they eat fabric softener?!), and the restaurant across the street had evacuated and left their whole week's delivery of meat and seafood to rot. Plus, the sediment from the flooding had dried out and gone airborne. In short, it smelled God awful. It was so bad that we had to keep reapplying Vick's Vapo-Rub to the insides of our nostrils to keep from getting sick. At one point the menthol wore off and I got a whiff of something pleasant. Amid all this rot and decay, through weeks of 100+ degree heat, the Cucumber and Green Grass reed diffuser still smelled fresh and clean.

It's the best stuff ever made...
