Unplugged, we talked a little about this yesterday, and I grouched about her likely successor--Campbell Brown. Ugh. I'd rather see Katie stay than have to watch insipid CB every day.
John R, the only thing that rivals her lipliner is her eyeliner--horrendous! She looks like either her makeup artist is 12, or Katie does her own!

I applaud Katie for the move. I think she has earned a shot at more serious news, and she has the chops to do it. I never watch CBS news but would tune in to watch her, and look forward to seeing her on 60 minutes.

I'm not a huge fan of Meredith Viera, but they could do a lot worse.

I just read it for the first time this morning, hadn't heard it before steele mama said it, then I read it on the web. But she's older than Katie! I guess if they want a seasoned newsperson, it makes sense, but I would think they'd be trying to bring in someone younger who'd be around for a while, no? :idontno:

Looks like she got a little "freshened up" when she went on her vaca. I love that she says she's never had work done.

I heard this on CNN yesterday. I made me sad. I absolutely adore Katie and love how she can so easily switch from being a very intelligent interviewer on serious political, etc., topics to being just plain fun and entertaining.

I've never seen Meredith Viera - never seen The View. Guess I'll have to Google to see when/where that show is broadcast. I am surprised they chose someone older. I had been worried that Katie would get the boot now that she's getting close to 50.

I'll bet Katie's fill-ins are ticked that they weren't chosen, although none of them compare to Katie IMHO.

In thinking back, I can't remember anyone who left the Today Show and did better except for Brokaw. Bryant Gumbel is a non-player, Jane Pauley and Barbara Walters ended going the silly daytime women's talk show and evening TV tabloid routes after being evening news anchors. So I hope Katie continues to excel.

Johnrudy, my huband calls them newsreaders, too. He says the Brits have it right by calling them that.
You may be right; can't remember which news show(s) MV did, but I do know when I heard she was going to be on "The View" when it started, I was surprised because I thought she was more of a real journalist than that. Like it was a step down for her.
Toots, I agree, I've always liked Ann. I need to have Miss Kitty expound on why she hates her, because I've heard the same sentiment from others and never understand what it is about her that people dislike so much.
I've always liked Katie, think she has a very approachable feel to her, but I've never really felt like she's an exceptional interviewer or anything; she has a great morning show personality--someone tolerable to watch when you first wake up, but not someone with a lot of depth.

i think i may be the only person around who doesn't watch the news. if i want to be updated i check cnn.com. it has probably been 20 yrs since i have watched a morning news show !
