Yep, that is what I just saw. 2 kids running on their roof.
Running to the front and back and then right to the edge and sitting down....
Where are the parents?
What to do? call the cops? Child Services?
I swear this is a crazy world....

Saw the same thing at our neighbor's house last summer. There were renters there, and a small girl (I'd guess about 4) was on the 3rd floor porch climbing over the railing and then climbing onto the roof! I was afraid to say anything because I didn't want to criticize the parents' or babysitter's child-care skills. But after a few minutes when no one intervened, I was about to have a heart attack. I said, "Honey, you need to stop climbing on the railing and roof. You'll fall and hurt yourself badly." She went inside, and I never saw her do it again. Clearly no one was watching her.

We had some renters who were inside drinking while their teenagers were smoking marijuana outside and jumping from the second floor porch into the pool (a long way considering that we have 10 ft. ceilings)! This was observed by one of our neighbors who notified us. Now there is a notice on the wall that says the rental company will evict anyone who does this, without any refund. At least they weren't diving from the third floor porch. Double .

Kids, as in 5 yr. olds? Or kids, as in 15 yr. olds? Mr. JR said they used to do stuff like that all the time as stupid, young teens.
Can you yell over to them rather than call the cops?

My former neighbors used to sunbath on their roof during the cooler months when the Sun was shining.

We heard today that a sophmore girl from Louisville died in Destin this week (conflicting reports- booze and/or heart issue) and a Louisville boy died while carsurfing today in PCB. I know the father of the girl, and we are waiting to hear about the boy since he went to one of the bigger Catholic schools and it is very possible we know of his family too.

Someone please explain to me again why high school kids are allowed to be unsupervised out of state?

Sorry IBD to hijack your kids on the roof thread. Maybe if they live through this period of their lives unsupervised, they can go on spring break and die a senseless death too.:bang:

 I'm trying to recall with whom I was recently talking who said that their kid jumped off the roof of the house and into a trash can.

It was my kid's friend- watch the Youtube for the full audio version. And if you ever hear of MY kid doing something like that, you better rat him out.

Yell OVER to them, not yell AT them.
As in, "Hey, what are you kids doing?! Stop it or I'll call the cops."

My gut reaction is to call the cops, if you don't feel comfortable telling the kids or parents. God forbid they fell off that roof and got seriously hurt, or killed, I would feel terrible knowing I saw them doing this and didn't tell anyone. I for one would call the cops.

I would tell the kids that you are going to let their parents know, and then I would let the parents know. If I were the parent, I would like to know.

Yeah, last name of Bollinger. I'm still trying to find out about the Trinity boy in PCB, and it wasn't on the news last night. My visiting girls have been receiving their info through their 3 constantly ringing cell phones.

That was her then. Beautiful girl. I didn't hear anything about the Trinity boy. I think spring break should be outlawed unless accompanied by a parent.

I seem to remember the teen and college stupidity problems getting bad enough a few years back that the Panama City area tv stations were running PSAs about how you shouldn't dangle yourself off high rise condo balconies and walkways.

Tis sometimes a strange and sad world we live in.

That reminds me of being at the Holiday Inn in PCB back in the 10th grade, and seeing a drunk friend of mine hold another drunk friend of mine over the railing on the 10th floor. No pool below, just a parking lot. That freaked me out. I also had a friend break his leg from hanging off of the third floor as he jumped to the ground. He was really drunk. I think most moms would freak out at the things which their children do. I once told my mom that she need not worry about not knowing some things. Some things should never be told to moms and others, only after the fact, to keep moms' sanity.

while i would NEVER advise it and would get the off the roof RIGHT AWAY! kids in not so nice city neighborhoods that don't have public park spaces play on the roof. it's so dangerous, but generally a good skate park or playground solves the problem.

urban building=urban issues

architecture and development affect people's behaviors. it's really fascinating. here, they built urban density without understanding the necessity of urban infrastructure. people are like little animals and it's easy to build in ways that will ensure certain kinds of behavior. some types of development that are high density without infrastructure like the "projects" for example, actually encourage isolation and crime.

meanwhile, if you took the same project building, created a large lobby where community can gather indoors ensuring communication, good lighting and openness in public areas like hallways, public indoor play spaces and community areas, recreation like pool and surrounded it with parks and trees, it would be a very safe and secure billion dollar condo.

the cost of something doesn't necessarily ensure how people behave, the design does.

i don't think developers here put much thought into that. too bad, a little thought can reap alot of $$$!

p.s. where there's a lack of community, there's a sense of lawlessness. and even in an urban environment, you CAN create a sense of community. i think people feel as though they can get away with anything - leaving young teens alone to party- because, well, they can.
it's a tragedy to lose young people like that.

if you don't give kids safe options for being kids (a community center, basketball court, skate park) they will find options...bad ones..that you don't like.

if developments and community pretend they don't exist, they WILL make themselves known.
