Thanks for posting these. They sure bring back plenty of good memories. I was in the 60's group mostly. We were outside playing until dark all over our neighborhood. There were no video games at our home, found plenty of ways to entertain ourselves outside playing. :D

ok people - who remembers the thrill of getting the video game "pong" for christmas that had to be hooked to the back of the tv with a huge box thing like a transformer. i loved the "blip" sound it made, and thought i was high class when i got my pong game !

oh yeah, you were the bomb if you had an atari ! our first microwave had dials on it instead of buttons !

i tried canned dog food once (it was better than mom's meatloaf)

Yes, a lot of that piece is true, especially about screentime.

The thing is, the kids who *didn't* survive (the ones who did fall and crack their heads open, or whose mothers took DES or Thalidomide, or who did go through the windshield in a car accident, or who were not the "right" ethnicity or socio-economic level etc etc) might not be able to tell us about it.

Sorry to be a naysayer, this is no declaration that society is perfect now, but whenever someone waxes nostalgically about the Good Old Days, I can't help but think of the other side of the story.

That's so true, brings back memories!
My 22 mo. old granson just had tubes put in his ears due to continuous ear infections.
I wonder why we never had that problem?

I had continous ear infections as a child. We used some oil that my mother heated in a spoon on the stove. I have hearing loss today thanks to those infections.

I tricked a neighbor into eating dog biscuits. :D

There goes your mom again!! I wish I could meet her!

Audie, I've decided you need to write a book about your parents! There are so many funny stories I've read on here about them.

loved this thread, like I loved my childhood. Certainly wish it could be more carefree for my kids today. Just the thought of them being able to play outside all day w/ out fear would be great!! I remember so many creative times exploring the wheat fields and lots of land.

Do have a question though? what's the deal w/ blu cheese dressing?
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
