A Santa Rosa Beach man has just won a free speech lawsuit against Walton County.
Marvin Peavy went viral back in 2021 after he hung two large banners supporting Donald Trump from the balconies of his home on 30A. County officials said the banners violated property maintenance rules.
Peavy claimed the rule violated his right to free speech and refused to remove the banners.
So, the county began fining him $50 a day for every day the banners remained on his home.
The case went to court and had been in litigation for several years. During that time, several people offered to pay the fines. Others wanted to start gofundme pages.
Peavy not only refused their offers but refused to pay the fines. Well, tonight, he doesn’t have to.
Earlier today, a judge ruled the county was in the wrong and ordered county officials to pay Peavy $42,000 in legal fees and fines. Peavy is still flying his Trump banners.
