Mr. DD, the dryer and the Less Dry Cycle.

Before we left on our trip, I noticed the dryer didn't want to start, but later thought that I probably just didn't set the timer..I didn't really care about too much that day, it seems.
Anyway, after we returned, mr. dd did a a load of laundry from the trip (bless his heart) and announced to me that the dryer wouldn't start. I told him I had tried it before we left with the same result. So today, while I was working on my Valentine card, he bought parts, tore the thing apart and replaced parts, to no avail. So then he comes and tells me we're going dryer shopping. I think to myself, "dang it! there goes my new vacuum cleaner!" We go to Home Depot. Well....I had forgotten what a picky shopper he is, and frankly never realized he even gave a hoot about how many different cycles are on a dryer! They only had one he liked, but it was out of stock, so he storms out and tells me to "come on--we're goin' to Best Buy." We looked at dryers for over an hour. Came home. No dryer. He is now hanging all those wet clothes on hangers in the laundry room. This is going to turn into an ordeal I can already tell. Wish me luck sowallers, I see a clothesline in my future!

I don't know if it's the cold weather or what but the pilot light on the hot water heater keeps going out and our dryer just stopped heating!!!! Mr OL is in the basement now. Not a good day. I think he's calling into work to play Mr Repairman. :bang: I just hope we don't have to replace anything. :(

Had to replace the hot water heater last week! Certainly not funn or cheap. Good Luck! Maybe it just needs a little adjustment :idontno:

Good luck with the dryer, DD -

I don't think the dryer balls are for us. The dogs bark when the washer is unbalanced, so I imagine the dryer balls would be a hoot. Plus, FuzzyJr and the Labrador would think they are fun to play with and break (more) glass...

front loaders are where it's at. less water usage, and they make pedestals for them that makes them easier to load but also negate being able to build a folding table above, since they'd be too high. i indeed have the bigtime tromms. i sold my house and specifically wanted a W/D set that would last me forever. RED will not make the clothes cleaner or dry faster, but will cost more. make sure you are able to place them so the doors open opposing each other so transfer from wet to dry is a snap. HD has an exchange program where for $1. they will take away your old set. of course, like any high dollar appliance, spend the money on the extended warranty.

you will not be dissapointed if you go LG.

it's all about the spin cycle, the faster it can go, the less energy you'll spend on drying.

pm me if you need more info.

Thanks John R - My decison is made - LG it is. You are right about the doors. It is best to have the washer on the left because it is hinged on the left and cannot be hinged any other way. The dryer can open to the left or right.

My in-laws had to buy a new washer and dryer a couple of years ago. My father-in-law  bless his heart, is a little, no make that a lot on the frugal side. My MIL stood her ground with him and they finally purchased the new appliances. I am not sure of the brand. When we all went up for a visit. He could barley contain himself. We were all marched to the laundry room to see the new machines. I'd never seen him so excited. The source of the excitement was not that they did a stellar job on the clothes, or in half the time, or that they used less energy or water! The dam* things played the "Star Spangled Banner" at the end of the cycle. :funn::floor:

:lolabove: :funn: :floor:

Thanks, SN. I hadn't thought about the Lab factor and the dryer balls...

But, RED makes me happy.

Ok...so he's gone to order the original one from Home Depot. Sadly, not the red one, plain white boring generic. But, at least I still might get my new vacuum!

I'm sold! I'm not quite ready for a new washer/dryer, but when I am I'll know who to call!!!

i had read in some paper about how some people with front loaders were getting a mold buildup around the door on the washer - do any of you have anything like that ? the article recommended leaving the door open so it can air dry....

Everything you ever wanted, and didn't want to know, about doing your laundry and washing machines can be found on the following message board. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/laundry/

You think people on SoWal are fanatical? Check out how excited these people get about their laundry.

There is quite a bit of discussion on this laundry message board about the problem with mold in the front load washers. We have front load Kenmores (Westinghouse) and occasionally there is an odor, but as long as you run a load of hot, and/or run an empty machine with dishwasher detergent now and then, it goes away.

I got my vacuum cleaner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:clap_1: What kind? Is it self propelled? Does it have a special filtration system? Do tell..........this is almost as exciting for me as a new iron.

BTW- you will laugh DD. I was taking clothes out of the washer and my bracelet got stuck in it. MANgo had to break out the tools, but not before laughing hysterically, having a beer, and getting the camera. I was there for 10 minutes with my arm in the washer machine.

It's a Eureka. Yes, self propelled, I think. Hepa filter. It was rated in Consumer Reports as the Best Buy--and you know mr. dd, he's all about best buys! Consumer Reports is his bible!

OMG!! I can't wait to see the pic!! I coulda just re-strung it for ya, but this story is better!!

I kinda doubt it. Between the trip, the dryer fiasco (which btw has yet to be resolved--I think he might have just gone to buy new underwear), his a/c going out on his car, and the vac, my Valentine's is pretty much done.

Chocolates or jelly beans, a well worded sentimental card, a nice homemade dinner etc. things like that mean much more.

I'll probably get a card. But it's ok! I'll be thrilled with that and the new vac!

I actually don't read the consumer reports, I come here and ask the ever knowledgable Sowallers what is best. Another misuse of Sowal power I know but it's so easy.
