Murder is OK: My Bible Tells Me So. : )

What is it about beauty contestants all now being anti-gay? Don't they know who is doing their hair and accessorizing them? Miss Beverly Hills, Lauren Ashley, now says the Bible is "black and white" about killing all gays and lesbians.

I think to many people believe a bit too much of what is in the good book. The Bible is like the Constitution, needs to be more flexible and open to some changes I think. No?

Alpha Crab, please don't concern yourself with her. It's just not worth it. Surround yourself with people who genuinely love humans and living beings because they are life! This is something from the Bible you can definitely argue and win. I support gays in their lifestyle, but when anger infiltrates, it's just not worth broaching.

"The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. In Leviticus it says, 'If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.' The Bible is pretty black and white..."

"I feel like God himself created mankind and he loves everyone, and he has the best for everyone. If he says that having sex with someone of your same gender is going to bring death upon you, that's a pretty stern warning, and he knows more than we do about life."

wtf? She quoted the bible. I saw no reference to her saying that it's okay to murder gays and lesbians. I think you're safe .

Sorry...but I call total BS on her answer and any other queen's answer that is similar. You don't get to their level of beauty contestant without working directly with and spending lots of time with the gay community.

They are giving the PC answer plain and simple.

Admittedly, her's seems to be extreme, but I think she's full of BS...

Yes, the Bible does say that in Leviticus. It also says literally hundreds of other things that IMO do not apply.

I am not putting gays to death, I am also not killing people for eating shellfish, for wearing clothes made of a fiber blend, and am not planning to sell off my daughter's virginity.

Far too often people do not actually read and interpret the Bible for themselves, they just take passages out of context or repeat what others say.

It's been said that the best way to create a non-believer is to have him read the bible.

I totally disagree with that. You just have to read it/study it in the appropriate context and realize that it has been heavily edited, revised, and translated/tweaked by many, many people.

As soon as I read about the Nephilem being a product of god?s angels and swooping down to have sex with human women, that's the end of the line for me.

That's only one of 4 possible theories though - and the translation/interpretation issues I mentioned are one reason why it is unclear.

The bible and the Constitution have nothing in common other than most of the founders believed in God and the bible.
There is little flexibility in the Constitution nor should there be flexibility. It is not open to changes other than through the methods discribed in it. The bible is open to interpretation but the Constitution is not. It is not changeable except through Amendment to it and there are specific methods for doing that. But then, it appears most citizens are not aware of how it can be changed or how it is done. The final interpretation of the Constitution lies with the Supreme Court and its rulings are subject to change by Congress and Constitutional Amendment. The last thing it needs to be is flexible and open, IMO, but then, AC, you have expressed the Liberal viewpoint regarding both beautifully and fallaciously.

There's a contradiction in your statement. You say that the Constitution is not open to interpretation, and then later you say that the final interpretation of the Constitution lies with the Supreme Court.

I do believe that no two people are ever going to get the exact same meaning out of any written document . If that were the case, the Supreme Court would need just one member and he'd never have to vote on anything. He would just have a perfect literal understanding of the Constitution, with no need for discussion.

Their commonality is they are both imperfect works written by imperfect humans.

Actually, many of the founding fathers were Deists and opposed the Bible. They believed in a creator, but that he did not concern himself with the daily lives of humans, and does not directly communicate with humans, either by revelation or by sacred books.

"I have examined all the known superstitions of the World, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike, founded on fables and mythology."
Thomas Jefferson

"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish Church, by the Roman Church, by the Greek Church, by the Turkish Church, by the Protestant Church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church."
Thomas Paine

"The doctrine of the divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity."

SB44, if you will note my post, I said "most" not "all" for the very reasons you cited.

Just be thankful she wasn't Jewish and quoting from the Talmud.

Let me do the math: If she says that the bible says that all gay people should be put to death, and we all know the bible also says, an eye for an eye, then when the righteous people kill the gay people, shouldn't they also be put to death (an eye for an eye). Also, where does that rule "thou shall not kill" factor in here? How does one literally interpret the bible? Just asking...

YouTube- Miss Teen USA 2007 - South Carolina answers a question

The best part about this is that everybody knows who she is, but I bet you couldn't find me 10 people in a day who remembers who won!

She has parlayed that into a part of the Pistachio nut ad campaign, The Today Show, The MTV Video Music Awards, a shows on both TLC and Comedy Central, and is a contestant in the Great Race. If she had given a straight answer and come in second, nobody would even know who Caitlin Upton is!

Sorry...didn't mean to hijack the thread...
