One year ago, South Walton witnessed one of the most devastating wildfires in county history. The Mussett Bayou Wildfire, a 343 acre fire, destroyed 34 homes and changed the lives of many Walton County residents forever.
Without the quick and cohesive response from Walton County emergency services, as well as countless resources from across the panhandle, crews were able to protect lives and property from this vicious fire.
Thank you to the WCEM staff and volunteers, as well as the Matrix COC, South Walton Fire District, Walton County Fire Rescue, Florida, Walton County Sheriff's Office, Florida, Walton County School District, Florida. Florida Forest Service, Center for Disaster Risk Policy (CDRP), Florida Department of Emergency Management, Destin Fire Rescue, Argyle and Liberty Fire and countless others.
