i'm figuring they are parking tickets, or we would have heard stories about crashes, being pulled over, points on license, insurance unable to paid, etc
so, i'm guessing they're parking tickets, and guessing that a parking ticket, even in LA starts at $20...
They start at $40 and double after 12 days. Do da math.
And, the EMERGENCY is that the car was impounded, and that costs $120 a day. And I had to get my car because I have to leave AGAIN today do go out of town for an event.

I was never given their credit cards. I don't even think they had any when I was growing up. It was all cash or checks.

I only got the credit card when it was my mom's birthday or Christmas and my dad would send me out to shop for her (and he never seemed to mind if I picked up a little something for myself, too!)

Once I moved out at 18, I never once asked (or got) one penny! But that was actually ok because while I did live at home, I pretty much had just about everything I wanted. I knew it would end at 18. It was an unspoken rule.

Seems like kids aren't in such a hurry to move out at 18 anymore (or so my friends tell me.)
